Several reports are delayed every weekend using Business Objects

Hello, we have about five reports which are scheduled to run anytime between 2 AM to 4 AM.

However, these particular ones always got created after 7:30 AM EST.

On Weekday, these reports run within 5 minutes.  I investigated our server log to see any competing process run during that time but no luck.

If you could provide me any insight, please do.

We have both time and even driven reports.  We do not have any issues on Tues, Wed, and Thursdays.

The time takes to complete each report does not deviate much.  The start time gets delayed.  That means some other processes in business object took precedence over cyrstal report creations.

How do I enable tracelog?

Hi Takashi,

Few more observation, which may help you for troubleshooting the issue

Ø  Do you have any weekly Business objects server Maintenance activity?

Ø  How many scheduled instance available in the environment. Too many schedule jobs may slow down the Adaptive job server

Ø  Please check whether all the crystal report services and adoptive job server are up and running fine during the report processes. sometime those services are change to starting or initializing mode

Ø  Please check whether any weekly ETL/BW job is in process which may affect certain reports

Venkat

Hi Takashi,

What type of schedule reports they are? Is that time driven or event driven? If you are in BI 4.0, In History of the Report schedule you can also always get info. about the used server, try to infer something from here.

Try enable tracelog for your jobbservers and investigate further.

I'm running the reports from the Business Objects.  I suspect daylight saving issue cause some reports to fail several times which put our reports into queue.

Are you using 3.1 or 4.0? As Dell told above, there might be backups running at that time

Backup is running only on Sundays.  Fridays thru Saturdays, we still cannot find any other possible causes.

Hi Takashi

If this issue is happening after day light saving, could you please reschedule the report once again by deleting the existing recurring instance. (This will avoid the report failure which happens continuously for certain period of time).

According to my experience with the same issue, I've rescheduled the report and it fixed it.

Let me know if it works!!

Him, Vijay.  We rescheduled reports before and it worked!  However, when the standard time hits, we need to reschedule them again, correct?

No need to reschedule the report on every weekend. If you have already deleted the existing recurring instance and schedule the report with new recurring, it should be working fine on weekends as well.

I hope that you are using XI R3 in your environment. Please refer to the below link to plan for day light saving issue.

Hope, I answered your question and provided necessary information.

Are you running these from BusinessObjects or Crystal Reports Server?  I suspect that there may be a database and/or file store backup going on during the normal run timeframe on the weekend that might be causing this issue.
