B1 for HANA installation scenario question

Hi,

I'm preparing for my first SAP Business One for HANA installation and kindly ask for your experience on the following questions because I couldn't find an answer for them while researching documentation:

  1. I have read that when licensing the product the minimum memory available is 64Gb. Is this a requirement of the server or just a license maximum? Do I have to use a 64Gb of RAM server? What is the minimum memory needed to run B1 with a new standard company database?
  2. Can I have more than one company database in the HANA server or third-party databases for other add-ons?
  3. Can I use the Linux server to share user files or relay e-mail in addition to being HANA server? Does this impact the required memory or other requirements from Installation Hardware Check Utility?

Thanks in advance for your help!

Hi,

The forum rule is: one question per thread.

However, all your 3 questions are one big question: what memory size is required to run B1H with good performance.

An easy answer is: if your server meet the minimum requirement, then install it to check the performance. If it is satisfactory, you can add more databases or user file/applications to the server.

The more the memory on server, the better you can run Hana.

Thanks,

Gordon

Hi,

I can give little suggestion and comments only:

1. You can ask for sizing of the database file to compute your memory consumption.

Since HANA is a in-memory the higher your memory is the more it improve the performance.

2. HANA is database, yes you add company.

3. Yes you can use Linux server as a file server and the same as HANA but this is not recommend

since there will an impact of memory consumption. Much better create a different server for

    this purpose.

Thank you.
