Is it possible different EHP versions of ERP in front end portal and backend ecc system?

Hello,

As far as I understand your question, you should not use different versions of ERP components in backend and portal system. If you check SAP note 1303362, then it says

The purpose of upgrading to EHP is to avail of new functionality, this may not be fully realized if you retain previous ESS/MSS versions

** EA_HR EHP extension sets, BPs, XSS and Business functions may bring in new functionality and change IMG customizing or offer further upgrades or compatibility opportunities, if activated or realized these could change the expected environment for older ESS versions

*** We would not recommend running new EHP ESS/MSS versions with the previous ERP 6.0 EA_HR 600 version

Hi,

BP components are the once that are responsible of running on ERP on the portal.

So for EHP6 sp 04 in the backend you can run on NW7.02 sp11 or NW 7.03 SP04 on the portal.

EHP is additional functionality and if you don't have both the version same the enhancement will not work but still existing functionality will work as of what sap says.

Hi Rishi,

We have to use ESS and MSS BP 1.41 version and so i have to get this confirmed before i go with installation. I understand that we should have SAP NW AS ABAP 703 version to install EHP6 of ERP. I do not want to upgrade my NW AS JAVA version to NW 7.3, and i wish to use EHP4 BPs on SAP NW AS JAVA 7.02. So, is it possible to use ESS/MSS BPs without any issue pertaining to EHP version differences in frontend and backend.

Now, from your reply i understand that new business funtions cannot be enabled if different versions are used in fronend and backend, or does that also means i cannot use any new enhancements to existing functionality? please correct me if i am mistaken.

Hi,

If you are planning to do upgrade please use solution manager to generate the xml file .

When you are generating the XML file it will show you the below screen .

So if you have EHP6 in the backend you can still have SAP NW AS JAVA 7.02 on the portal.

While generating the stack it will tell you NW 7.03 but you will get all the patches of NW 7.02 as SAP has not release any thing for NW 7.03.

Yes, i tried that, system gives NW 7.02 components even though we select 7.03. Thanks for your confirmation!!

Hi Abhinav,

You have to apply all the BP that are coming in the Stack file.

Should not Pick and choose to avoid any issues.

As this is EHP pack sap say that old functionality will work and you get new functionality also but you need to activate it to make it working.

But still testing need to be done and you will find that old functionality might or might not work.
