Hi,
In my landscape we are going to install BOBI 4.0 sp6 and its a fresh installation. And we are planning to use OLAP connection for BICS connectivity between BO and BW. Am quite new to this kind of connections. I want to know the procedure to make connection between BO and BW. After the insatllation of BOBI, can i directly create a OLAP connection or before that i want to make any settings between BO and BW, if so please let me know the proper step by step methods. Kindly help me in this.
Thank you in advance

Hi,
please do use the search function before posting. term "OLAP connection 4.0"
here are the tutorials you need:
http://scn.sap.com/docs/DOC-22040
http://scn.sap.com/docs/DOC-20472
there are 2 ways of doing it.

Henry,
Already i checked those documents but my query is, am going to use WinAD authentication type and am not gonna use SAP users or SAP authentication. In that case, do i need to configure STS(UNX) and SNC(UNV). And also am going to use OLAP connection for Bex. If so what kinda SSO, do i need to configure before the creation of OLAP connection between BO and BW?
Thanking you in anticipation

If you would like to use single OLAP Connection between BO and BW, configure STS to have the SSO
STS will be used for OLAP connections SSO.
Below is the url to configure STS

Prasad,
Thank you for your valuable inputs. Do i need to enable SAP Authentication to configure STS between BO and BW. Because am not gonna use any SAP user or i need to create one SAP user for this connection. And also do i need to import the roles from BW. Anyways am gonna use WinAD authentication type only. Am lil confused. Can you please provide your valuable inputs.
Thanking you in anticipation.
Obinna.
Henry,
Thanks for your support. In my landscape users are using only Win AD authentication type. So after the AD configuration, how can i connect my BO with BW for effective performance. Can you please suggest some clear documents for my landscape. Please find below the Landscape details
BO BI 4.0 SP6
Windows AD authentication type
OLAP connection, BICS Connectivity.
Data Provider : SAP BW 7.01
Thanking you in anticipation

Prasad,
I have one more query like already we have 3.1 sp4 landscape. In the 3.1 they haven't fetch roles from BW system. But the SAP authentication is enabled and they are maintaining few users ID's in BW and while creating users in BO, they are enabling database credentials and using that SAP credentials for every users. End users are using Win AD authentication only. In that scenario, can you please gimme your inputs like what scenario they are using and whether the same scenario is possible in BOBI4.0 sp6, if so can you please suggest some documents to implement the same scenario in BOBI 4.0.

Hi,
for optimal performance, the authentication type isn't too important. What you need are the latest BW and BO 'interoperability' fixes .
The expectation is that the new BICS 2.0 runtime, in conjunction with newly available BI4.1, delivers optimised calls and improved runtime performance (especially at ‘design time’ i.e. query panel)
Your customer can find out more about it by going to www.service.sap.com/notes , filtering on software component BI-RA-BICS, and using search terms << performance BICS_PROV* >> for example, notes 1749171, 1755154, 1785451.
I believe the enhancements are in the range 7.30 SP10, 7.31 SP08 and 7.40 SP05 and above.. and no, these don't get backported to 7.01 ...

Please check the below url for the same
http://wiki.sdn.sap.com/wiki/display/BOBJ/How+to+map+SAP+users+and+AD+users+in+XI3.1+CMC
and there are 2 ways to do this:
option #1 is to do it manually
option #2 there is a registry key under businessObjects\SAP\authentication which is called Simplfied Names which then imports the users without the System ID prefix into your BOE system.
Please check the below
SSO to database based on Kerberos can be configured for the following databases, note that the user must logon to the BI platform using Active Directory for the kerberos ticket to be passed down to the database. Note however that this cannot be used for scheduling, as the kerberos ticket will not be available to the system when the user is not online. For scheduled tasks, the database
credentials must be stored.
