Hi All,
My technical support team tells me that they can not add any custom characteristics to a SAP stock dimension. In this case the stock dimension is "Time" which includes some things like Calendar Day [0CALDAY], etc... I would like to add to that dimension some custom time characteristics i.e. Fiscal Year [ZFISCYEAR]. So I had them create a custom dimension called Time_1 (just for test) that they put both the stock and custom characteristics in. Problem with that is they tell me that they can not hide the stock dimension "Time" from showing up in Bex Query designer...so you see both "Time" and "Time_1" in there...this is confusing. Does anybody have any solutions or can you validate that what my support team is saying is correct.
Thanks,
Mike-
Hi Mike,
yes, your support is righ.
You can not add a time characteristic to the standard time dimension.
and yes, you can not hide it, because the 3 standard dimensions time / unit / package are included into every data provider.
you could try to create a multi provider on top of your provider, I think it is possible there to leave the standard time dimension out.

Cornelia

Time dimension is a standard dimension where in you can use only time chars like Calmonth, calday etc..
You can create custom time dimension. But you can decide what to use in the query. If you dont want to develop a report based on standard one. You can simply use the custom one from the left side in the query designer.

Hi Michael,
Not possible to hide dimension at query designer level and standard dimensions also not changeable.
Dimensions are visible at query designer left side only. so there won't be an issue.
Because query designed was accessible to BW Team only not for users..
if your not using TIME dim related object on your query then you can use multi provider as stated by Cornelia.
Thanks

Hi,
Yes your support team is right...You cannot include custom objects in time dimension other than SAP provided time characteristic.
you cannot even hide the dimensions as well only thing is to choose the name of custom dimension wisely so that you do not get confused with standard time dimension.
Hope this helps.

AL
