Catalog type 9

Hi Gurus,

Kindly let me know how to use catalog type 9. We are using type 1 and 3 only for RR and UD respectively and maintains the MIC for defect recording. This was as per business requirement. I have always seen that defect recording tab in QA32 and now want to know how to use this section for recording of defects separately.

I also tried creating it but could not get far from QS51, though I was able to create type 9 in QS41 but always gets following error in QS51

Selected sets are not defined for this catalog type

Kindly advise how to use this catalog for defect recording? Pl mention if I have missed any other info which may be required to understand it better

Kind Regards,

Hi Meena & SAP QM,

Thanks for your suggestions.

But I would surely need to maintain some config setting before mapping the defect recording through Catalog 9. I have not used it anywhere before. Therefor I need to know  what setting do I need to do in SPRO followed by catalog maintenance.  I guess i would need to finish this before I can proceed to defect recording. Or I can simply use QF01 ??

Pl suggest

Kind regards,

For defects recoding Process in QF01 / QA32, no additional configuration required. 9 is standard catalogue type, if you want you can create your own defect codes & code groups in QS41 as per your user requirement / QS41 or use below SPRO path:

Quality management –quality planning – Basic data – catalog –Edit catalogs – Edit code groups and codes. Try to record defects and let us know if you face any issues.

Hi Meena,

I got following error while using the QF01. This is what I was earlier telling you about. Since the defect recording involves QM notifications and I have not used QM notifications ever, thus not able to get through

No quality notification type has been defined for inspection type 04

Pl suggest

Hello Nitin, I really wonder how you are getting this error for standard 04 inspection type. This can happen if someone has changed the configuration.

Follow this to overcome your latest error,

QCC0 > Quality inspection > Inspection Lot Creation > Maintain Inspection Types > Double click on inspection type 04. Specify appropriate notification type there.

In standard, its F3 for 04 inspection type. However, you can use any other notification type there that best suits to your business requirements.

As mentioned by others, there is no need to maintain QS51 for catalog 9. Only creating code groups and codes through QS41, is sufficient for the creation of notification.

Hi Anand,

Thank you very much. It worked.

As I mentioned earlier that I have not used QM notifications and do not know much about it, I myself had created a notification type and assigned to 04 inspection type. Now the error is closed and defects can be recorded.

Moving further, I found the 'Activate notification' in the defect recording screen. How do I use it? How to maintain notifications in SPRO. Frankly speaking, Im learning the QM notifications and exploring the scenario related. You can see my another query and may kindly respond.

Hi,

Catalog type 9 is used for defect recording by using T.code QF01 / while doing RR you can see the defect botton in top of the tool bar.

By using QF01 t.code you can define defects for inspection lot level, operation level & characteristic level.

HI,

No need to maintain selected set (QS51) for catalogue type – 9, enough to maintain defect code & code group in QS41.

Usage is: You can directly record defects by QA32 or QF01 (with ref of inspection lot). Also you can make this defect recording as automatic.

For automatic defects recording,

1.       you must tick defects recording check box in control indicator for inspection characteristics,

2.       Maintain catalogue 9  - select relevant code group

3.       Maintain defect code group for general rejection & defect code when specification falls above the upper limit & defect code when the specification falls below the lower limit.

Then automatically defects will be recorded based on the result recoding & particular notification will be generated in background.
