Hi Hari,

Line-item dimensions is used for characterstics with a very high cardinality.

For example, Customer number in industries that deal with many end customers, such as telecomunication, banking, and insurance.

For line item dimensions SAP BW does not generate a DIM_ID or a dimension table but instead stores the characterstics SID_ID as a dimesion ID in the fact table.

Hope it helps.

Hi kamal ji

could u explain me more about this, for exmaple product also characterstic, that also deal with any end users, what about those records? they are in mater tables (attra's , tex and hiererchies).if they are in mater tables why we need dimension table assisgn line item dimension .

Hello Hari jee,

I agree with you, we can use it.

But the only drawback with line-item dimensions is that a dimension that could potentially store more than 250 characterstics is effectively used for just one characterstics, u can't include additional characterstics.

Hope it helps.

Hari,

Line item dimension improves performance - data are read directly from SIDs instead of additional read from DIM_IDs tables.

Doesn't matter if a char has texts and attributes. In the cube you can keep just this char's SID. All the other info may be retrieved by this SID.

Best regards,

Eugene
