@ Bijay Kumar Barik
Hi,

Need your advice, I am trying to create PO Release. I have created Characteristic and assigned it to class, but when i am trying to create 'Release Groups' while saving it is showing error "Please check release classes (see long text)".

Now for this i have delete the existing 'Release Groups' and then i can save.

Please advice me how many 'Release Groups' we can have or always we have to keep only one. If in future i have some other business requirement then can i create new 'Release Groups', 'Release Codes', & 'Release Strategies' without disturbing the existing one.

Please Advice me,

Regards,

Ritesh Kumar

Hi,

In general ,the Release Characteristics for PO are decided during design stage. As you need to use only ONE Release Class for PO -if business needed further you can create New Release codes,Release groups and then design new release strategies.

Creating new Release Characteristics and adding to same ONE Release Class not advisable in running system but if needed- before changing existing Release Procedure and Release strategies in production system, Be sure that all old purchasing documents should be released with old release values with old release strategy and then carry out changes- but before doing
keep properly tested in Development system & Quality system and finally transport related transport request number related to your new release strategies to production system.

NOTE:If business needs, use Function Module - ME_REL_STRATEGIE_EKKO to define more than one class.

Hi,

You are getting error message by system as your system already created release group/release groups by using a Release Class for PO and now you are creating a new release group with different Release Class for PO!

In SAP standard, you can use only ONE Release Class for PO (CEKKO structure – used for PO and Contract) where with having ONE Release Class for PO, you can create “N” Number of Release groups for PO.In your case you can create “N” Number of Release group’s future business requirement but you should use ONE Release Class.

Hi thank you all, Very True. i understood that i can create number of characters and can assign to a single class only and i can create number of Release group but can assign only one Class and as per that i will define release strategy. And after testing i can move it to production.

Please advice me for this

1.  In future i am creating or modifying characters or class then do i need to aging configure everything with testing or its fine to only modify.

2. Do i have to create different classification, class, Release group & release strategy for PO, Outline Agreement, Consignment & Subcontracting.

Please advice.

Thanks,

You can assign only one Release class per Release object. In future, you donot need to create again a release class for anything. For PO, Contract, Scheduling agreement we have the release object 2 and you must assign the same release class. But, if required, you may create a seperate Release groups PO, CO, SA respectively and have configured the release strategy as you required.

1)No additional configuration is required in the future. You should not create a new class. You can      perform the step of 'classification' (ie adding trigger values to the characteristics in the release class)  as many times as you want depending on your need in the future.

2) All of PO, Scheduling Agreement, Contract etc can only be released completely and hence, are assigned to the release object 2. As suggested above, you can create different release groups for each of these and assign them to the same Release Class. To trigger separate release strategies for each of these, use document type as a characteristic.

Hi,

SAP allows only one class to be assigned to the release object ie. if release object is 1 (partial release) 1 class can be allowed to it, if it is 2 (complete release), a second class can be assigned to it.

To answer your question, you can have innumerable release groups. But you need to assign them to a single class is the release object is 2 (complete release). Group any new characteristics into the existing class and assign the existing class to the new release group.

You can create the Release group as you required for example for PO you create with Release group PO and for Contracts you create release group CO etc. Are you entering the seperate release classes for your release groups?
