CR2011 is there a runtime 14 available

I understand that I can use the following:

CR2011 Reports using the Runtime 13.X

Reports Developer Machine Requirements

The above requires the developer to develop the report in CR2011 and save the file. Open the file in VS2010 and save the project than save the .RPT file. This provides the report with the needed elements for the runtime 13. The .RPT can be moved to the server at this point to used for production.

Application Developer's Machine

Web Server

  • MSI 64 Bit http://scn.sap.com/docs/DOC-7824
  • The Application package from the Application Developer's machine
  • The .RPT file after it has been created and saved as mentioned above

What I am trying to find out is if there is a another runtime (e.g Runtime 14) that supports CR2011 without having to have the VS2010 and the install executable on the reports developer machine. I believe this is how is was setup for CR2008 when using the Runtime 12. The only reason VS2010 and the install executable is needed is the runtime 13 doesn't support CR2011 directly, which was determine a few years ago.

If someone could fill in the XXs and ??s below that would be great. I would also like a link to the page that contains the runtime downloads so I can get the downlaods and review the developer guides and API information related to that runtime.

CR2011 Reports using the Runtime XX.X

Reports Developer Machine Requirements

  • CR2011

Application Developer's Machine

  • Visual Studio Version ???
  • Install Executable for runtime XX.X

Web Server

  • Runtime version ???

I am asking about this as some customers would like to develop their own reports on a local installation of our product, so if CR2011 can reference a runtime without having VSXXXX and the install executable XX.X being installed on their machine the overall costs and training would be greatly reduced.

Seeking answers...

Hello Roy

First off, I believe you are not correct when you say that you did not have the CR 2008 executable installed and then developed in VS 2008. For one, you'd have been breaking any licensing agreements (e.g.; developing with just the runtime installed), for two, the CR designer and other components of CR would not have been linked into the VS 2008 IDE causing all kinds of issues.

Re. CR 2011 (v 14.x) and CRVS (v. 13.x)

Think of CRVS as the .NET SDK / runtime for CR 2011. Don't get hung up on the version thing. Your customers can create report in pretty well any version of CR (from v. 9 to v. 14 and in the future CR 2013) and run those in your app. All you need to do, is develop the app on your dev system. Compile, distribute thae app to the customer. They can create their reports. In your app you provide a way to load those report into the app. Note that your customers do not need any version of VS .NET installed - just the runtime for your app.

Ludek thanks for the reply.

To start off I am not a developer as I am customer support guy seeking a solution. It could be said that I should let them do everything and I sit back as it isn't my role. The problem I am faced with is a time crunch and customer reported issues.

I agree that the Application Development Machine needs to have VS2010 with the install executable 13.X for developing our code to be placed on the server. The server would need have the runtime 13.X installed as well. The confusion comes into play for the reports developer machine (not the app dev machine).

To address an issue we had with scaling with opened up a support ticket with SAP Incident 3265895 / 2013 as the feedback in the forums can lead you in many directions until you have used the exact word that someone else used in their posting. During discussions the SAP Engineer clearly stated that the reports developer machine when using CR2011 requires (CR2011, VS2010, and the install executable 13.X) and the application development machine needed VS2010 and the install executable for runtime 13.X. He would not move forward with the support ticket until we had the reports developer, application development, and server aligned with what I listed above. This was to remove any variables and to baseline our support issue moving forward.

This is why I was asking this question and clearly getting a different response from you as to what needs to be installed on the reports developer machine. I get what you are stating and that was our original thought that only CR2011 needs to be on a reports developer machine. Things changed when the SAP Engineer stated that we needed to have VS2010 and the install executable on the reports developer machine as well as the saving process outlined in my original post.

As a result of the paid support ticket SAP Engineer feedback started us to review if there is another runtime such as 14.X. Is there another runtime available?

I will clarify with the SAP Engineer what you state the requirements are for the reports development machine.

Well it looks like you might have reached out to the SAP engineer and we were exchanging emails related to your feedback on the crystal reports developer machine (not application development). I would say it is clear that only CR 2011 needs to be installed to develop a report or to open an older version and save it to upgrade it to the latest version. It can than be moved to the web server for production use.

Thanks.
