How to run SAP BO Dashboards on Ipad or Android

Hi,

I have developed dashboards on SAP BO Dashboards 4 (version SP6) .My requirement is to deploy the same on Ipad and Android systems.I have followed the steps as per SAP (mentioned below):

1. Downloaded SAP Business Objects Mobile (version 5.0.6) on Ipad and Android systems.

2. Performed the connectivity between SAP BO Mobile app and BO Server (SAP BI Platform 4 (version SP4)) successfully.

3.Created a category in Categories as "Mobile".

4.Tagged my objects reports and dashboards under Mobile category.

5.As per the process I should be able to see both the reports and dashboards, but i am able to see only reports no dashboards are displayed on SAP BI Mobile app.

Now, Please let me know what other steps need to be done to run the dashboards successfully on ipad or android.

I checked on net and found that SAP BI Platform 4 version should be SP5 or above I am doing that update but don't know if it will work fine or not.

If any one has implemented SAP Dashboards on ipad/android then please let me know the process or any information regarding the same.

It will be a major help to me as I am stuck up on this.

Note: I have developed all the dashboards in mobile compatibility mode and also saved to platform as Dashboards objects for Mobile.

Regards,

Javed

Hi Javed

We also faced similar issue while creating dashboard for ipad last year. Please let me know the connection url which you are using to view dashboards on ipad?

If you are using https://<hostname>:port then this can cause issue please try using http it should work fine.

For configuring for https also, please contact your network team. Admin guide also contains detail infor on configuring https for sap bo 4.0.

You can also refer below thread.

Hi Shabnam,

Where do you need URL I have created Dashboards on Xcelsius and want to access using SAP BI Mobile App on ipad/iphone.

Where is URL needed?

Hi Javed,

When you download SAP BI mobile app from itune you need to create new connection to access webi, dashboards on your ipad. Kindly check your connection details. It will have connection url, CMC, authorization type, user name etc options. If ur connection name uses https:// please try using http address.

We were also facing same issue earlier and raised OSS for the same.

Try using by http, if it dashboards are visible them contact your network team.

Shabnam,

I am using http only.

Is there any other setting or something which I am missing.

I dont think you have missed any settings. I still feel its network issue, you can ask network team to open other ports aswell and try viewing dashboards on ipads or ask them to trace communication between ipad and your BOE server. You can also try with both http and https connections.

If issue still exists then please raise an OSS message with SAP.

Hi Javed,

Build the dashboard using SAP BusinessObjects Mobile BI. It works perfectly on iPad.

you can use HTML5 but HTML5 solution won't be available until probably the end of the year.

Hii Javed ,

Some more help for you

There are certain prerequisites for viewing the dashboard via iOS

1. SAP BI 4.0 enterprise platform with SP05

You’ll need 4.0 SP05 for using mobile dashboards.

2. BI Mobile server installed on your enterprise platform

The BI Mobile server handles the synchronization between your mobile device and BO enterprise platform. It checks which BI content (Webi reports, Crystal reports, Xcelsius dashboards and in the future SAP Design Studio (ZEN) documents) is made available for mobile use. Next to this, it passes the parameters set in the opened BI report/dashboard and communicates this with the Enterprise platform and returns the data.

3. SAP Dashboard Design SP05

The SP05 version includes the new mobile panel, compatibility checks and publish to mobile modes.

4. The iOS app SAP BusinessObjects Mobile for iOS version 4.4

You’ll need the app for viewing the dashboards on a mobile device since the app includes the HTML5 wrapper.

Hi Javed,

Did you check in the 'Mobile Compatibility' browser for the supported and unsupported components for mobile. If not once check it and remove the unsupported components from the dashboard. Also check whether you have saved the dashboard for mobile, then only your dashboard will be accessible through mobile.

Yes,

I have checked all the option.designed a simple dashboard just a pie chart with mobile compatibility.

saved to platform as Mobile and Desktop.

Still not able to see the dashboard.

One more question - do I need to put the Dashboard in Mobile category?

Hi Javeed,

As we have direct option of saving in mobile category, again no need of saving it in launch pad in mobile category. As you said that you are able to open the reports in mobile, save the dashboard in the same path where you saved reports and open it.

Hi Javed

If you have BI 4 SP06, Dashboards 4 SP5+ and SAP BI App 4.4+ , software wise you are ok.

At this point, I would re-install the app if possible and create a new connection to the BI server from scratch. Then export the xlf to BI Platform again as mobile. and check how it behaves.

You don;t need to assign Mobile category anymore. For connectivity you are using Query browser right? And I am assuming you resolved all the Mobile incompatibilities within XLF.

Hi Nirupa,

How can you access without saving the Dashboard to platform i.e. Launch Pad.

Also the reports which I am able to access are on Launch Pad only and categorized as Mobile.

Hi Runali,

The version I have-

SAP BI 4 SP06, SAP Dashboards SP06,SAP BI Mobile 5+.

Today I have freshly (from start) checked on iphone for dashboards but its not visible.

Also I have tried assigning category and without category. For connectivity there is nothing as I am testing using a simple column chart and all components are mobile compatible only.

Please let me know what can be the issue.

You have implemented the same can you recall the steps followed by you.

Hi Javed

Did you recreate the connection? If you don't want to reset the existing one, you can always add a second connection to the same server. This way you avoid any risk of cached information.

I created the dashboard with mobile only components, previewed as mobile to make sure everything looks as I expect. Then I save to platform as Mobile to a folder i desire. I have created both disconnected and connected to query browser xlf.

Then in the iPad app, added connection to the BI server and the dashboard showed up. I faced problem adding the connection and I had to make sure the server and iPad can ping between each other. I am assuming that part is not a problem for you because your app can already talk to the server as you said you can see WebI reports.

If you have access to a second iPad, reinstall the app and start all over again.

Thanks

Hi Runali,

As per your reply I have done the same.

I have installed a fresh SAP BI Mobile on a new iphone, so issue of connection cache is not there.

On Dashboards side , I have created a simple column chart only taking Mobile Components.Than I export it to platform as Mobile only in a desired folder. Here I have tried assigning to Mobile category and without Mobile category both.

On Iphone I created a new connection to server and connected successfully to SAP BI Server.

Now, I am only able to see reports not the dashboards which I have developed above.

I am really out of idea now that whats the issue.

Please let me know what to do now?

Hi Javed

Software and steps wise you have done everything. Did you try in iPad? If it works in iPad, then check the mobi.properties file if there is anything set for iPad_specific

Ok,

I just noticed, you have BI Platform 4 SP4 but you will need SP5 for mobile dashboard to work on iPad.

You seem to have covered all other steps.

Dashboards are available on andriod only from 4.1

Thanks

Hi,

Yes ,I am upgrading SAP BI Platform 4 to SP6. Will check if I am able to see the dashboards after that.

One query , I need to update the BO server to SP6, because there is separate BO client available in SAP Market Place on SP6?

Hi Runali,

My question is if I see there are two components BO Server and BO Client. I checked on SAP Market Place there are separate installations available for updating from SP4 to SP6. Now which one I have to use?
