I'm new to SAP BPC 10.0 for NetWeaver. It appears that we are not able to use base members on a dimension in multiple hierarchies. If they are assigned to a parent in Hierarchy1, then they cannot be assigned to a parent in Hierarchy2. Is this correct? Is there something I'm missing? The purpose is that we have different parts of the business that would like to see data rolled up differently. There is no question about what base members should exist. There is only a difference in how different parts of the business would want to roll up the data. It looks like we ultimately would need to maintain a unique set of base members for each different hierarchy we want to maintain, in any given dimension, which does not sound like the route we want to go.
Any clarification or suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
Jeff
Hi Jeff, the same base member can roll into multiple hierarchies, there is not the need to have different base members for each hierarchy. Here's an example you may want to keep in mind.
Say cost center A rolls into cost center C in the H2, when creating cost center C as a member, it's parent should also be populated in the H2 column. If it's in the H1 then it will likely fail.
CORRECT FORMAT: | ||
ID | ParentH1 | ParentH2 |
A | B | C |
B | BB | |
C | CC |
Hope this helps.

Hi, Jeff
For the same base member, they can exist in different hierarchies at the same time.
What you need to do is specify the parent in H1 and the parent in H2 for the same member.
Hope it helps.

You should be able to do multiple hierarchies, I have not come across any such documentation and this is a common business scenario. The parent members (all of them) in the two Hierarchies need to be different ID, for this to work.

Hi Jeff,
I think this is indeed the case, see https://support.wdf.sap.corp/sap/support/notes/1494332

Hi Jeff,
for the note try this one http://service.sap.com/sap/support/notes/1494332.
You can have base members in different hierarchies the important thing is that parent members should be different and base members should be always base members.
Kind regards
Roberto
