Change of Fiscal Year Variant from V9 to V3

Dear Team,

As per the recent amendment in Companies Act, all Indian Companies needs to follow Fiscal Year Variant V3 - April to March, we need to change in one of our Client the Fiscal year in Production Client. Below are the details:

Current Fiscal Year: October - September - V9

Required Fiscal Year: April - March - V3

We have to create a Short End Fiscal Year for the 6 months (Oct. - March) and then re-assign the V3 as Fiscal year to the Co. Code. We studied couple of SAP Notes (S Note: 210861/193713/672255) plus the threads in the same line but getting confused about the steps to be followed.

What all steps needs to be done for shifting the Fiscal year variant? What impact does the change in Fiscal Year Variant makes? How the AA, CO, MM & SD module impact makes?

Regards,

Jaymin R. Bhatt

DearJaymin,

generally speaking: it's not recommended to change a Fiscal Year Variant that has already been
assigned to a company code and has already some postings. This will may create
database inconsistencies.

Please check the following attached notes which will give you an idea of some adverse effects that may happen as a result of a change based on the modules/components you have implemented in your system.

Kindly take a look on the attached Notes:

427920 Analysis program for fiscal year conversion

210861 Changing fiscal year variant in production system

The change of the fiscal year or the change of the fiscal periods in a live SAP system has an effect in many modules, for example, in FI, FI-AA, FI-SL, FI-LC, EC-CS, IM, CO, EC-PCA, MM, PP, SD, PS, PM.

Corresponding risks (for example, data inconsistency, system standstill) can arise from incorrect changes to the fiscal year or from incorrect changes to the fiscal periods in a live SAP system.

You can refer to the following wiki page also:

System Landscape Optimization (SLO) provides consulting services for changing the fiscal year and changing the fiscal periods.

The consulting services consist of analysis and support.

If you do need to change fiscal year and need help for this, please read note 672255 for detailed information. The note contains attachments which include the questionnaire to be filled in as well.

Hi Jaymin,

As i have not gone through such a critical activity of fiscal year change, so i am afraid i cannot provide the details of inconsistencies that can arise during fiscal year change..

But I have heard that SAP has some program that cannot be accessed by others and they only have rights to execute those program that are relevant for such activities.

Regarding your approach on creating a shortened fiscal year variant in order to Short close the fiscal year, but this activity i guess needs to be carried out with utmost care as any mishap here can lead to unforeseen issues.

Regards.

Hi Jaymin,

Change of Fiscal Year Variant is a very critical activity and need a thorough and in depth analysis as the change may lead to data inconsistencies.

I have read somewhere about the SLO (System Landscape Optimization) services provided by SAP regarding the same.

I would recommend to raise a SAP OSS message for this and take advice of SAP also.

Hi,

Thanks for the quick update.

We have raised an SAP OSS for Change in Fiscal Year and reply was in context to SLO services to be opted.

SAP OSS stated about the data inconsistency in various Modules, would like to understand what inconsistency could be faced?

I have referred below trailing link for the same which explains the steps towards shortened FY

http://scn.sap.com/docs/DOC-34672

Can anyone guide what exact inconsistency it refers to?
