BPC EPM Member Selector Blank

Former Member

Hello Experts,

I have an issue I hope you can help me with.  I have a user in BPC 10 Netweaver.  Within the Excel EPM Add-in, when he uses the Member Selector, it is blank.  We confirmed his access, did a re-install, and the error continues.  I also checked his PC Specs to ensure everything was compatible.  I believe it is a PC issue, not a BPC issue, but I wanted to know if anyone has seen or heard of this problem and if there is anyone to fix it?  He is able to see data if he refreshes a Report to whatever his default context is, so that proves to me that the members are there, he just cant see them or change them.   Any ideas would be great.

Thanks,

Hi Sean,

1-       Please check the EPM Add-in log from EPM menu option More->Log.  Checking the log should provide information about the problem.

2-      Check the Excel version, uninstall it and reinstall it.   This could be the result of a missing or disabled the ActiveX that displays the drop down list.

Thanks Leila,

Are you referring to uninstalling Excel or the EPM?  I will check the log.  Thanks.

Hi Sean,

I think if the problem is in the Excel or related ActiveX objects then reinstalling MS Office should resolve it.  EPM does not cache the information in member selection lists.  Rather it loads the required Excel DLLs and then fills in the information.  So I am thinking may be some of the required DLLs are not there or are disabled or incompatible.

Hi Andy,

We did not solve the issue.  The user ended up getting a new computer and no longer saw the issue.  Good luck.

Hi Swati,

did you find any solutions?

We find a similar issue on BPC 10.1 SP 18-2, on Excel 2010.

When we open a workbook, after automatic refresh, the elements within EPM member selector are unusable: it's impossible to select one member even though the EPM member selector menu works.

If I try to stop the automatic refresh, I can select some members on EPM Member Selector

Thanks

Sean,

One way to clear users settings is to go to the Users personal folder and delete the EPMXLClientPreference.XML files and Metadata folder.  the location for Win7 is

C:\Users\<NT LoginID>\AppData\Local\EPMOfficeClient\

Hi Sean,

The possible scenario I have told is, say in the EVCVW formula, if there is a property restriction, which doesnt return any members and when you double click the cell the Member Slector will be empty.

Please show EVCVW formula for the cell.

Hi Arun,

As I mentioned, its not just on cells.  Even when the user selects Select Member in the Context bar it is blank.  My example above was not in a cell or forumla and there are no filters on properties.  I still belive its some sort of setting related to the users PC, not so much a BPC issue.

Thanks,

Sean

Hi Sean ,

couple of observations which I have seen related to such problems.

1.Go to Manage connections and check if report connections are okay

2.When the user runs the epmcontextmember/epmselectmember command from a different version of EPM Add-in then the function parameters are different across different versions of epm .Just check if the user is having the same version of EPM add-in on which the report was created.

Basically the connection parameter could be the first parameter or it can come as second or 3rd parameter also in different versions of epm addin.E.g. there is a difference between epmcontext member in version 8 and 12.

Rakesh

Hi Sean

1)

If the issue is like, when the user clicks the EPMMemberSelector, the cell blinks, then this is because the Active Connection is different from which the report actually needs to be connected.

2)

If the EPMMemberSelector Dialog box is empty when opening it, then there might be some property slection or criteria which is not populating it. If I am correct I assume this EPMMemberSelector is used in a Selection Box and when you click on it, its empty.

Hi Arun,

In response to your 2nd point.  Do you know of a way to test this?  When I was working on his computer, there were not property filters or anything selected, the user simply cannot see the members.  But if he refreshes a report, he is able to see data, and the members default to his context, which he cannot change.  So the Members are there, we just cant see or select them.

Thanks,

Sean

Hi Sean,

You can use this BPC user to try on other PCs. This makes us know if this symptom is user specific or PC specific. Also, you could try to use the latest version of EPM Add-in, SP14 patch03.

Hello all,

Thank you for the responses.  We did try having the user login using a different PC and it worked as expected.  I also logged in as myself on his computer and received the same error which I feel proves it is the user's pc that is at fault.  Many of you mentioned a report, its not just in a report.  Once the user logs in, if he selects "Select Member" from his context bar, the issue arises.  I have double checked his connections and EPM version and it is all up to date.  It appears that whatever is "called" when you open the Member Selector is not working.  We also opened a ticket with our local helpdesk to see if they can find anything.

Thanks,

Sean

Hi Sean,

Have the following query:

  • Is this a single user problem? All other users are able to see the members properly?
  • Did the user try to login to a system in which the members are visible using his ID and password ? If yes, is he able to see the members there?

Regards,

Kalyan.

Hey Kaylan,

This is a single user issue.  All other users are able to see the members properly.

The user is able to login to the web client if that is what you mean.  I will have him test building a report on the website.  The issue is in the Excel EPM Member Selector.  I de beleive it is realted to his PC, but thought it couldnt hurt to put it on the boards.

Thanks,

Sean
