Data entry in BW?

In a project, there are about 10 chrateristics (price) which we want the users to manually make entries in BW so that those figures can be used in other calculations.

How best can this be handled?

Thanks in advance.

Hi Amanda,

Loading through a flat file is one option. Though, there is n o garantee that a FF structure always will be correct.

Another option is to create a layouts for manual entries. In this case data entered will go directly to the objects linked to these layouts. This is BPS feature, but I think it is applicable to enter data in BW also.

Best regards,

Eugene

Thanks but there is an inherent problem here. The layout approach is the preferred or workable approach but the entries in a layout goes to Excel but how do we upload it to BW, so that it can be used in other calculations in real time?

You noted that

"In this case data entered will go directly to the objects linked to these layouts. This is BPS feature, but I think it is applicable to enter data in BW also."

Why can't this be done in BW but BPS?

Thanks in advance.

Hi Amanda,

There is a special tool in BPS that allow you to create a layout for manual data entry:

So, there is a talk about plan data. It doesn't matter. Data may be differenet. You may create a layout, switch your cube into transactional, enter data through layout and swith the cube back.

Best regards,

Eugene

Hi Amanda,

If it is master data characteristics then you can maintain the master data manually. RSA1 -> Info-object -> Maintain Master Data (from context menu). You can add the values manually.

Howver if you do not have access to maintain the master data or your user do not have access, the you can ask them to enter the value in a flatfiles. You can then load them into the respective characteristics.

Bye
