Hi friends,

Thanks for the reply, I have one question in Cluster. Why we are using Sybase Cluster Edition to perform Cluster for high availability, Why we can`t use in Sybase ASE 15.7. Thank you

I am not sure if I understood the question right but in Sybase ASE 15.7 you have two options for high availability. Option 1 is the one that is discussed it Dobler's illustration. In option 2 you don't need CE but the clustering is done by clustering services on OS level. It is sold as a separate option with ASE.

1. Use Sybase ASE cluster edtion which is detailed above and documented here

http://infocenter.sybase.com/help/index.jsp?topic=/com.sybase.infocenter.dc00768.1570/html/ase_ce_ug...

2. Use Sybase ASE HA "Option" which relies on OS clustering services to provide HA. In this option Sybase ASE relies on operating system to do the clustering.

http://infocenter.sybase.com/help/index.jsp?topic=/com.sybase.infocenter.dc00356.1570/html/ha/title....

Then you have other technologies like VCS cluster which may let you provide Active Passive clustering at node/container level.

Your original question was about clustering on the Windows platform. ASE Cluster Edition is not available for Windows so your only option is ASE with the HA Option.

ASE Cluster Edition is available for Linux, AIX, HP-UX, Solaris SPARC, and Solaris x64.

Hi Sudhir,

Thank you for the reply friend, I am try7ing to establish the high availability concepts in Sybase ASE. I already performed the Replication Systems for Warm Standby and MSA. So Now I am trying to establish Sybase cluster for High availability. I have one Sybase ASE 15.7 in windows platform. So that version is enough for Clustering, If not means why we are choose Sybase Cluster edition. And My question is What is the reason for using Sybase cluster edition instead of Sybase ASE 15.7

Mark already mentioned that Cluster edition is not available for Windows so you don't have that option. Only Sybase ASE HA can be used along with windows clustering services. This HA option has to be purchased separately with Sybase ASE 15.7.

You may want to go through documentation to look at difference between Sybase CE and "HA option". Link provided in previous answer.

Hi friends,

I got it now, but one more query, is there any other need for OS level cluster(MSCS) in Sybase Cluster Edition or else we can perform Failover cluster without using OS level cluster(MSCS). Thank you

ASE Cluster Edition does not run on Windows, so the question about MSCS doesn't really apply. If you use ASE with HA Option, I believe you will need OS level clustering support.

Hi Karuthappandyan,

Is there anything else you need to consider this answered?

Hi all,

I have a question about Ase Cluster Edition.

In 15.5 ' s previous  release   ASE cluster edition isn't  configurable for write on the same database with  two o more nodes (ASE)..

I explain more : if I have an unique application with one database and two ASE in cluster edition configuration I need to  configure one node for read and one node for read and write.

Does someone  know if this is still true ?

Thanks

Fabiola

The general documentation for this is the "Using Sybase Failover in a High Availability System" manual at http://infocenter.sybase.com/help/topic/com.sybase.infocenter.help.ase.15.7.sp100/doc/html/title.htm...

If you need further help, please explicitly explain the details you have questions about.
