Time Dependent Masterdata variable time reference

Hi All,

Is there anyway of getting time dependent navigable attributes to function like the "Variable Time Reference" you can use for currency translation?

We need to be displaying and navigating (without looking up in a transformation) a department characteristic over a period of time against transactional data, so the Key Date doesn't cut it. We don't see the point of the Key Date from our perspective as we have never found a use for it.

Any ideas?
