Hi George,

Hardware key is required for getting a license from SAP Service Market Place.

Steps:

For Solaris/ UNIX/ Windows

  1.   Login to the server with SIDADM user
  2.   Use command: saplicense –get

ABAP Stack:

Transaction Code:  SLICENSE

The following actions will change the Hardware Key:

1. Formatting the machine and reinstalling Windows.

2. When changing the computer name.

3. When changing the domain (it will not change back when returning to the previous domain).

4. On Linux - If you change the network card.

The following actions will NOT change the Hardware Key:

1. When adding a login user for the computer.

2. When changing date/time on the computer.

3. When changing the IP.

4. When adding a memory or hard drive to the computer.

Hi Expert,

Both of you said I just need to either login to the server with sidadm user or login first and then execute command: saplicense -get. After that, I may get a hardware key. However, the prerequisite is to have a system on my computer, isn't it? Also, does it have to run under server environment?

thank you and best regards,

George

Hi George,

If your system is ABAP or Dual Stack, You can connect through GUI and run Transaction code: SLICENSE.

Hi V. Srinivasan,

None of them. ABAP goes into error when I install solution manager. I don't have Dual Stack either. That's why I need hardware key to create new system for sending message in order to ask question about how to fix the error I got when I install solution manager.

By the way, the error I got is in another post I just posted

thank you and best regards

Hi V. Srinivasan,

I am wondering if I have to run it under correct OS or I don't need to because I run it on my laptop with Win 7 professional and then it show an error: It's not an executable file.

On the other hand, I had a workaround to create a new system data maintain. However, I sent a message with this workaround, I haven't received your reply until today. I don't know what happened to it and I am not sure if it was successful to send or not.

thank you and best regards,

George

Hi George,

As mentioned you can check you hardware key by running transaction SLICENSE from SAP

You can check the hardware key also from OS level by login into user <sid>adm and execute the command

saplicense -get

Thanks & Regards

Hi Amit,

I had a workaround, but I am not sure if I would like to obtain permanent key, does it go through the same method?

thank you and best regards,

George

Hello George, is your system updateon SAP Marketplace ?

You can see hardware key on:

  • Display and Maintain System Details of your system

  • Go to License Key & Maintenance Certificate

Hi Graham,

I haven't finished installing solution manager 7.1 yet because I encountered an error I can't fix it. I tried to create new system to maintain for message yesterday afternoon because I need to understand how to solve this problem. That's why I don't have any SAP system to get my hardware key. I would like to know if there is another way to obtain permanent key.

Thank you and best regards,

George
