Not possible to open DesignStudio reports via BI 4.0

Former Member
0 Kudos

Hello,

we have upgraded our BI 4.0. to SP6 - Patch 3 and have installed the DesignStudio ServerComponents (1.1 Patch 1). The application and the server appears in the CMC and we have granted the authorizations as described in the admin-documentation. We are also able to connect the Design Studio to the server and use OLAP-Connections.

Now the problem:

When we run the report locally everything works fine but when we run the report on server side following error message appears in the Browser (IE):

"An error has occurred: An error occurred while trying to view the document".

This also happens when use a report w/o a BI datasource (just a simple button)

Furthermore we are not able to open the report within the launchpad. When we click right-mouse button no option appears.

Someone of you knows this problem and can help us?

Great thanks in advance

Dirk

Dirk,

I to was running into the same issue.  Adter reviewing the muitiple reply's I used the SAP Note from above and Add the following line to the APS.AnalysisApplication Command Line Parameters.

"-Dbusinessobjects.connectivity.directory=<BOE_INSTALL_DIR>\dataAccess\connectionServer"

Once this was done the Design Studio Applications started working correctly thru the BI Platform.

Some new information:

LaunchPad: When I set the DS app as "Home Tab" within the "Preferences" it executes successfully after logon. This means to me that the installation on server-side works in this area.

But in the document and open document area the error still exists.

HI Dirk,

I assume you have configured the Single Sign On Token Service ?

have you configured the OpenDocument to accept SAP token and use SAP authentication as primary authentication ?

Hello Pallab,

it is not clear what your issue is and in case it is different to the original entry I would suggest that you do create a new entry in the forum.

Hi Ingo,

yes the issue is still open.

For about 8 weeks SAP Support tell us, that they are working on it -> no success up to now (it's a shame)

We must deliver something to our users and unfortunately we now have to evaluate some other (Non-SAP) frontend-product that seems to be very good.

and what exactly is the issue ?

The issue has not changed and is still the same: We are not able to start a DesignStudio-App via BOE -> see above.

Hello Dirk,

some of those items might have been ask - if so - sorry:

- does this happen with all your applications or only with a particular one ?

- does the application use an OLAP connection ?

- did you try already a different browser ?

- I assume the server add on for Design Studio is installed and the user has the necessary rights ?

- when you click on the object in the Launchpad can you see a complete openDoc URL in the properties / Document Link ?

- What happens when you call this URL ?

regards

Hi Ingo,

- does this happen with all your applications or only with a particular one ?

-> no, only DesignStudio

- does the application use an OLAP connection ?

-> we tested it with and w/o OLAP-connection -> both scenarios failed

- did you try already a different browser ?

-> yes

- I assume the server add on for Design Studio is installed and the user has the necessary rights ?

-> yes

- when you click on the object in the Launchpad can you see a complete openDoc URL in the properties / Document Link ?

-> yes

- What happens when you call this URL ?

-> Message: "An error has occurred: An error occurred while trying to view the document"

Further information:
When I set the DesignStudio-App as Start/Default-Page in the InfoView it executes here (strange).

SAP does not know where the problem is. They evaluated a lot of log-files but no solution up to now.

hi Dirk,

when I referred to the applications I was referring to other application you created with Design Studio.

Does this happen only with one specific Design Studio app or with other design studio apps as well ?

So even when you execute the open document URL in a brand new window you get the error ?

thanks

Hi Ingo,

it happens with every DS app. For example: I created a simple app with just one button and the error occured - also by using the open document URL in a new window.

Did you try to re-deploy the web applications using WDEPLOY?

Hi Dirk,

Install Google chrome and set as default browser then open Design studio and click on execute from BI platform.

I have followed the same steps in my system and it is working fine

I hope this will solve your problem

Thanks

Hi,

we have the same problem of Dirk.

Our configuration is:

  • SAP BusinessObjects BI Platform 4.1 Support Pack 3Version: 14.1.3.1257
  • Database Name:  Oracle Database 11g Enterprise Edition Release 11.2.0.3.0 - 64bit Production With the Partitioning, OLAP, Data Mining and Real Application Testing options
  • SBOP Design Studio 1.2
  • Server info: Linux 3.0.76 x86_64

After installing Design Studio we have:

  • created a dedicated Server
  • Checked "User Security" (I'm administrator)
  • This is the error page I got when I try to open a Application by "BI Launch pad"

    The stack of Exception is:

com.sap.ip.bi.base.exception.BIBaseRuntimeException: Error while generating data provider:

Hi, have you installed the Design Studio BI add-on to the platform?

If so, and you meet the prerequisites, I recommend opening a SAP support message/incident.

OK thanks!

I was hoping that the exception

com.sap.connectivity.cs.extended.ConnectionServer

only was a known bug.

I haven't heard of that with Design Studio - the last note with that error dealt with Web Intelligence/APS - see http://service.sap.com/sap/support/notes/1898878

Solved with NOTE:
1898878 - SBOP BI 4.0: scheduling of a Web Intelligence report fails with error: "csEX csEX com.sap...

But when I try to open a test application I get:

If I open it in local I get

Hi Dirk/Srikanth,

Could you try to use IP address of the server instead of fully defined host name? in the opendoc url?

CMC --> Applications --> Open Document --> (context menu) Processing Setting

http://<;IP>:<port>/BOE/OpenDocument/opendoc/openDocument.jsp?sIDType=CUID&iDocID=%SI_CUID%

Hi Dirk,

when you execute the application locally, Design Studio will leverage the local defined connections.

When you execute the application on the BI Platform you need to make sure the application is using the connections (OLAP connections) defined on the BI platform.

Did you switch the connection to the BI platform ?

Hi Ingo,

thanks for your ideas. For the server application I use the OLAP-Connections.

I made an example without DataSource-Connection (just a simple button) and this app also does not work if execute it on BI-Plattform.

Hi,

did you install the BIP Add ON and the services are configured and running ?

Hi,

yes we installed the Analysis Application Service (Design Studio Addon) on the server and the service is running healthy.

It is possible to upload the DS apps to the server and to connect them via OLAP-Connections.

It is NOT possible to execute them on the server via LaunchPad (there exist no "View"-option in the context menu) and execute them via OpenDocument-Interface ("Execute on BI-Plattform").

Have you installed the Analysis Platform Services on the BI Platform?

You also have to look at the security inside the CMC

Hi Tammy,

thanks for your help.

Yes we did this.

- We have installed the "Analysis Application Service" and this server runs healthy.

- Regading authorizations:

We have created a group "DesignStudio" and assigned it to the application "Design Studio Runtime". Our users are members of this group.

Beside this I made a direct assignment of my user to this application (View and Full-Control).

Could you run a trace?

Please see this thread Design Studio: Problem with restricted Bex query

The bottom of the thread shows you how to activate the trace logs in Design Studio

That might show what the problem is

Hi Dirk,

Could you check the open doc url?

CMC --> Applications --> Open Document --> (context menu) Processing Setting

Please check if the url looks something like this:

http://<host>:<port>/BOE/OpenDocument/opendoc/openDocument.jsp?sIDType=CUID&iDocID=%SI_CUID%

If this looks ok, then Go to BI Launchpad --> Documents --> Folders --> <Select the Design Studio App> (Context menu)

Copy and paste the document link generated here in browser.

Check if this works fine.

Hello Bharath,

I already made this test -> negative. The same error message appears as when we start it from DesignStudio directly (I believe DS also uses the OpenDocument Interface).

Thanks for your help.

Hi Dirk,

Could you cross check this with any other browser, best would be to check it with chrome.

Good idea but same error within chrome.

Hi Tammy,

I checked this but there was no error message in the error panel. I believe this is a server issue and not on the client side because the DesignStudio works fine. (Creating application, using OLAP-Connections, saving application on server and testing application locally)

Only calling the server-saved application via OpenDocument (Execute on BI Platform) does not work and this looks like an server problem ;-(

Thanks and regards
