SUBMOD_SWITCH_KERNEL/KX_SWITCH issue

Former Member

Hello

I am in upgrade phase BI7.0->BI7.31 on Win/Mssql. I am in phase SUBMOD_SWITCH_KERNEL/KX_SWITCH

During this phase in module MAIN_SWITCH / Downtime I: Switch tables and Kernel  I got error message: "Deleting 'K:\usr\sap\BIU\DVEBMGS00\exe\sapevents.dll' failed: Access is denied."

I got explanation of that error in note "Note 1790828 - Central Note -
Software Update Manager 1.0 SP08 [lmt_004]
" which leaded me to note: "Note 1556113 - sapevents.dll in
DIR_CT_RUN is locked
"

However HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\services\eventlog\Application\SAPBIU_00  value of "EventMessageFile" already contains

K:\usr\sap\BIU\DVEBMGS00\exe\sapevents.dll

I then renamed the K:\usr\sap\BIU\DVEBMGS00\exe\sapevents.dll to K:\usr\sap\BIU\DVEBMGS00\exe\sapevents.dll.old but when retrying upgrade encountered "again" message: "Deleting 'K:\usr\sap\BIU\DVEBMGS00\exe\sapevents.dll.old' failed: Access is denied."

Last idea is to restart the machine but can I do it in Downtime phases?

What would you suggest?

thank you in advance

Jan

Hello

Delete or move all the files in the K:\usr\sap\BIU\DVEBMGS00\exe location to another place.

Keep this directory empty.

If you are unable to move or delete the files from K:\usr\sap\BIU\DVEBMGS00\exe then stop the SAP services from services.msc and then do it.

Once done start the services and then continue with the upgrade.

Hello Benjamin

Thank you very much for hint.

How did you mean to stop the SAP services from services.msc and then start them?

When openning Sap Management console there are no systems in it (just "Console root")

Did you mean from "task manager"(I could find also services holding the file with "handle"). But i am not sure how to start the services back

Could you let me know this in detail as I have to be 100% sure

Thank you a lot in advance

Hello Jan

As this is a Windows system there will be services related to SAP in services.msc

Start - Run - services.msc - Enter

Check the status of the SAP related services. Are they stopped or running ?

Make sure you close the MMC console as well.

If nothing is helping you in deleting those files then restart the server and then delete the files and start the SUM tool and repeat the step.
