Linking existing PM Eqpt to new MM Material

Former Member

Hi PM Experts,

Hope you can help me here.

Until now we used Equipment Masters. They were not linked to any MM Material Masters.

Now we have a requirement of transferring them from one plant to another plant, using Stock Transport Order and Delivery.

Therefore we need to have them set up as Material Masters too.

We created Material Masters with Serial Number Profile and Serialisation Level to keep Serial Number and Equipment synchronised.

So, if we purchase new Equipment, on Good Receipt of the PO, Material Stock goes up and and new Equipment Master is created with the same Serial Number. We then can stock transport them between plants etc.

Our issue is with all the existing equipments. If we assign them to the Material Master using Construction Type field, they do not show in the stock.

If we try to use Initial Stock Entry [MIGO / 561] for the Material with existing Equipment numbers as Serial Numbers, then SAP gives error that the Serial Number already exists.

Will appreciate any suggestion in this regard.

Thanks

Bis

In Serial Number Profile, keep the option of not creating equipment automatically or proposal. So that, no equipment will be created while doing 501 of that material. Only serial number will be created.

Then, in existing equipment master, assign Material number & appropriate serial number in Serial data tab as shown in above screen shot.

Not sure what you are trying to do if you have existing equipment within a plant I would assume they are attached to a functional location, this being the case you would assign the serial number as stated above via IE02. The equipment will not show on you stock until they are removed from the functional location and returned to stock.

It would then be you have a number of equipment's installed at functional location and only the pumps actually in stock will show on your stock balance.

If you use transaction !Q09 (list editing display) this will show which serial numbers/equipment's are installed at a functional location and which serial numbers/equipment's are in stock.

What about Movement type 501.

Thanks for your reply Jogeswara.

Issue here is - no matter which movement type we use, when putting the Material into stock, SAP tries to create an Equipment, with the Serial Number entered. Since we already have these Equipments already set up in SAP using the PM functionality only, SAP gives the error - "Equipment already exists".

We need to be able to get these equipments into MM inventory, retaining the old Serial Numbers.

Let me explain this bit more.

We have pumps with Equipment numbers - P001, P002, P003 .... P099

We have been using them for long time - having created the Equipments in PM only. We did not manage them with MM, ie, we did not have any Material Numbers for them.

Now we created a Material "PUMP" which is Serial Number managed. If we purchase 3 new pumps, we Goods Receipt 3 PUMP Materials with serial numbers P100, P101, P102 - and SAP creates 3 new Equipments with Equipment numbers P100, P101, P102.

But how do we get the old existing pumps into inventory ?

When we Goods Receipt them, we have to provide the serial numbers, and when we enter the existing P001, P002 etc, SAP gives the error - as those Equipments already exist.

Hope I could explain.

Any suggestion is appreciated.

In the equipment master (IE02), you can activate serial number tab like shown below:

and put your material number and serial numbers in this tab.

Hi Jogeswara,

Thanks again for your reply.

But this doesn't increase the stock. It just creates a soft link between the Equipment No and Material+Serial No.

We had been using pumps [Equipment No P001, P002, P003] for long time. But we did not have them set up as a Material. Now we created a Material PUMP.

As you suggested, through IE02, we can assign:

Equipment P001 to  Material PUMP / Serial No P001

Equipment P002 to  Material PUMP / Serial No P002

Equipment P003 to  Material PUMP / Serial No P003

But then the MMBE for PUMP shows no qty.

Whereas if we purchase a new PUMP, when we goods receipt it, we specify the Serial Number P004 in MIGO screen. And through synchronised Serial No + Equipment => we get a new Equipment P004. In that case MMBE shows 1 PUMP and Environment > Equipment/Serial No shows the Equipment P004.

MMBE doesn't show any stock for the original 3 PUMPs P001, P002, P003 that we assigned to Material PUMP / Serial No P001, P002, P003.

We need to pull the old PUMPs into stock.

Appreciate your help.

Yes,

This will increase the stock only when you do IE4N, dismantling an equipment from the structureand transferring to Storage Location.

Hi

kindly check with the following process

change the serial no profile with tick mark in "Existance required" and Stock check as"1"

then do the MB1C specify the same serail no eg P001- P003 then check

After doing the posting reveret back the setting to original one
