Copying a plant

Hello,

I know this topic has been addressed a few times but I am not able to get the specifics I wanted.

When I copy the settings of an existing plant into a new plant should I transport the number ranges?

What are the specific effects of transporting or not transposrting the number ranges?

Would the current interval status also be transported too? For example the current running number for a PO could be 1001 in Dev, 1059 in Test and 1120 in Prod systems. Would 1001 overwrite the number range interval status in the target system when transported?

What other precautionary measures one should take while transporting the number ranges?

What other topics one should keep in mind in general while copying a plant?

Would appreciate your inputs.

Hi U.V,

When you will copy new plant with reference to existing one ....all the number ranges are copyed for the same except Excise number ranges.

Would the current interval status also be transported too? For example the current running number for a PO could be 1001 in Dev, 1059 in Test and 1120 in Prod systems. Would 1001 overwrite the number range interval status in the target system when transported?

Also if you will again start  number ranges from start 1120 ....then system will terminates that PO.

you need to countinue from last PO number from existing system. or create new Document type for new plant .

Prashant,

Thanks. Are you saying transporting number ranges in the already productive system would overwrite the current running number for documents in the productive environment?

Hi,

When copying a plant you should not be transporting the numbering ranges.

If you transport the numbering ranges then you will be overwriting the numbering ranges in the target system which will lead to huge problems.

Dear UV,

1.) You have to do copying of 0001 reference plant always to make a new plant that will bring the plant specific parameters.

2.) Number ranges better to create if it is already existing system and you are doing only few changes in the PRD system.

3.)Number ranges transport is advisable when you are about to implement new system.

Dear U.V ,

When you copy a plant to plant , you take into account  ...

* Company codes must be same them.

*001 Plant are advised , but you can do your company referance plant.

*You have to maintainance of V_159L sap table.

*SE16N or SM30 can be used....

*You have to copy plant as same as spesifications like a general plant settings.

*Number ranges are copyed .

"WHY" do you suggest the above? What is the effect if I transport the number ranges in an existing productive environment?

Hello Kannan,

Thanks for your response.

I cannot get any more specific as far as my number range question is concerned.

I could share other info though....I will be creating a new plant under the already existing productive company code. The existing plant is assigned to this company code and there are millions of transactions already made in the productive environment. I will be creating a new plant to handle a specific set of products. This I plan to do by copying the existing plant via EC02. I plan to keep the sales org the same as well. Hope it throws some light on the number range and other general questions.

I am more interested in the impact of technical actions I take rather than the technical set-up per se.
