Hello friends,

Can you please help me to understand how should i calculate process for below in SUM. Should it be dependent on number of CPU or something else ?

I tried to check this in SUM guide, but didn't found a concrete answer.

And for SGEN, these DIA process are used from which Instance - Shadow or Main ?

Thank you.

Additionally check the update guide mentioned here for more details:

Hello

I suggest you to keep the SUM selected number of processes for the BATCH, DDL and R3TRANS during the uptime and downtime phases unless you have a high configuration machine.

The SGEN is for the Shadow System. The newer version of the SUM tool provides the option to run SGEN in the shadow system. The tool prompts for this:

http://scn.sap.com/docs/DOC-32544

Choose an execution strategy for transaction SGEN.

01)  -  Do not start ABAP load generation during the upgrade.

02)  -  Generate ABAP loads on shadow system during uptime.

03)  -  Generate ABAP loads on shadow system during uptime and start asynchronously in post downtime.

So the SGEN processes is for the shadow system.

Hi,

You can calcualte no of background work process according to resource

present in you server i.e. no of cpu and memory ,please keep in mind shadow instance also build in same server .

Please check SAP Note No. 1625638 .

And for SGEN it will run on main system.

hi ,

Please go through the below note and it will help you to understand the screen you asked.

1616401 - Understanding parallelism during the Upgrades and SPs implementations

1630256 - Usage of the "memory-optimized activator" during Upgrades and Enhancement Packages Installations

Note 1460004 - High memory consumption in upgrade phase RUN_RSAIMMERGE_UPG

Note 1460004 - High memory consumption in upgrade phase RUN_RSAIMMERGE_UPG

Just keep in mind that during the upgrade tool will installing a new instance an running support pack activity on it.

Thanks

Hi,

The number of process is dependent on the amount of RAM you have in your system and the processing of these processes(dialog and background) depend on the number of CPU's dedicated to your system.
