SAP EHS GLM

Hi Experts !

I have few doubts in GLM.

1. In GLM we have 6 GLM scenarios by default like

  Make-to-Stock labeling scenario

·  Make-to-Order labeling scenario

·  Delivery labeling scenario

·  Goods Receipt labeling scenario

·  Generic labeling scenario

·  Sample labeling scenario

But I want to print the labels for the shipment based on shipment order. Is it possible ? To so do, I have to create new scenario or can modify existing scenario ?

2. Using any of the above 6 scenarios one will print the label. But how to check whether labels are printed for a sales order (for eg) or not..? Once the label is printed, how to block the particular sales order from printing label again ?

3. For Labels, can we use SAP Script/Smart Forms, Adobe forms instead of WWI Templates ?

4. For printing Labels from GLM, do SAP suggest / requires any particular printers (physical printer to print the labels) ?

I have few doubts in installing Generation server also. Can u provide me the logic behind the generation server, synchronous server, EHS Management server. In our system we have installed WWI and installed WWI Generation server also. But when CGSDAM is executed i get error stating that "No EHS management server is currently logged on at the SAP gateway".

Also when i execute cg5z, i see some logs. when i select a line, then UTILITIES -> TEST SERVER, i get error msg as "No server data"

Guide me rectify the error.

Dear Subash,

in response to ur question

I have few doubts in installing Generation server also. Can u provide me the logic behind the generation server, synchronous server, EHS Management server. In our system we have installed WWI and installed WWI Generation server also. But when CGSDAM is executed i get error stating that "No EHS management server is currently logged on at the SAP gateway".

Also when i execute cg5z, i see some logs. when i select a line, then UTILITIES -> TEST SERVER, i get error msg as "No server data"

The generation server can be installed only when EHS Administration server is up and running. This generation server is the utility which generates jobs and completes the document generation process.

The synchronous server is something different which checks the generation servers . Depending on the load, it will divert the jobs to a different generation server for load balancing.

With respect to the error u face, I believe the configuration is not made correctly. This is tricky and tough though to make it work.

You have to configure the EHS server as per WWI cookbook.

the DMS settings must be in place. follow the OSS 1394553, 580586, 580607, 995736, 1091699.

Hi C.B/Dinesh !

Is my understanding about Generation server is right ?

In typical scenario,

1.You have server sap system, a pc with sap GUI installed(where user will work and use Label Printing.

2. You can either install Generation server on the server or the local PC with GUI. (Instead you can have a dedicated PC to install the Generation server)

3. Before proceeding with WWI installation, create the WWI user and make it as "log on as service"

4. Create the RFC connection for Destinations EHS Management server and Generation server and test it.

(in my case i am having a pbm here. It shows The following error,

After checking, found out the SAP Note 353597 - Registering RFC server programs, tried out that too.

But getting this error,

5. Once the RFC works, we have to run the wwisetup.exe to install Generation server. During which it asks the entries for SAPRFC.INI. In that we have to enter the RFC details we created earlier and add MANAGED=1, to mention that it is EHS Management server.

6. after that, we have to run, svcadmin.exe, we have to make EHS Management server as MS windows service, and start the service.(In my case, earlier it was showing err, nw it is running)

7.Once it is running, execute cgsadm to see the server. (in my case am having err). the EHS managmenet server will be logged in and visible. from here we have to install generation server as MS windows service.

Is my understanding about the process flow is right...? Do i make any mistake in the process flow itself apart from the RFC error ?

Dear all

keep in mind that "EH&S-Management-Server" is only available starting from a specific SAP release.

E.g. referring to:

http://help.sap.com/saphelp_dimp50/helpdata/en/69/46e98392e3c04ea65c1b682cc98cfa/content.htm

it is stated:

"Using the EH&S management server you create the WWI generation servers and EH&S Expert servers as Microsoft Windows services.

Alternatively you can set up WWI generation servers and EH&S Expert servers manually as console programs in Customizing for Basic Data and Tools."

Clearly we are all, I assume, lucky to have this new tool in place because it does have a lot of benefits.

Pay attention with the topic of "loadbalancing" of WWI server. This is very complex (and cleary in older SAP release the load balancing is taking place without the EH&S management server)

Regardig "synchron" " asynchron"

e.g. check:

http://help.sap.com/saphelp_dimp50/helpdata/en/28/ff885da47c214ba0712816f98fe782/content.htm

Please check WWI cookbook chapter: 5.1.3 as shown e.g. here http://de.slideshare.net/shivaprasadd/ehs-wwi-cookbooken

The toopic is explained here.

Dear Subhash,

Please check with ur basis team about registering ur RFC in the server. As far as I have used with 2 kind of server like Windows and linux based, the registering of RFC is used with linux system. The GWSERV and GWhost must be mentioned as a fully qualified text. Take help from basis team to make the RFC working. goto transaction SMGW and check your gateways. The same parameters must be maintained in the RFC. Check other thread and follow cookbook step by step.

Its painstaking in making the wwi work but quite interesting.

C.B is my guru.

Now first try removing the GWSERv and GWHost from both RFC's and check the connection test.if it doesnt work, enter as GWS'r as a fully qualified string such as seasrv04.accenture.com and GWH as sapgw00 ( your servwer domain name and system instance no must be used)

Hi C.B / Dinesh..!

Thank you for showing the path & guidance u provided. Now I installed EHS Management server & successfully running generation server as service...!

The RFC problem i faced is due to the fact that two application servers are in one sap system. Trying to apply the sap note for that. Meanwhile installed it on the sap system server itself, instead of doing it in local pc with front end. I am able to give print from both PC...!

Now exploring different System landscape...!

Dear all

may there might still be a little "misinterpretation" regarding "generation server" and set up.

1.) a generation server should not bet set up "locally" but really on a "server". This server/These servers has to be available 24 hours 7 days a week (more critical GLM than SDS distrbution). Please check cookbook; it is quite common to use "virtual software" to use one hardware and to set up more than one gen server on that hardware; please be aware of the fact that the "driver" for that set up decision is Microsoft Word. This software can only process on WWI process (refer to several OSS notes); therefore if you need high volumes of printing/processing etc. you should prepare two or more virtual maschines on the same hardware as then you have more than one Word available.

2.) it is common that your architecture is different in dev, qual and prod. Therefore in dev may be you have only two gen servers, qual 4 and prod 8 (depending on your need)

3.) Therefore it should be clear that depending on dev, qual and prod you need different servers, different RFC etc. etc. etc.

With higher release SAP provides some additional tools regarding WWI. Here you can check better the status of SDS distribution etc. Please check SAP help.

Be ware of the fact: if you want to use "pdf" during SDS distribution (or similar processes) you need to make sure that any ! generaiotn server does have the same software

This is one of the crucial topics and takes most of the time during operation of WWI server to make sure that any logo, graphic etc. on any server is  the same (you will have very strange results if you don't take care regarding this !)

Keep in mind: there is a customizing option there you do something to influence the "load balancing" on the WWI servers. But you need a very good concept how you would like to use this option

Dear Subash

regarding:

For Labels, can we use SAP Script/Smart Forms, Adobe forms instead of WWI Templates ?

By standard: No; but there is a "potential option"

Check SAP Online help. Check the Business functions related to EHS. In one of them an "option" is described to "print" something not using WWI. If this is possible with GLM: no idea. Nether tried to implement that.

Please check as well "SAP Recipe Management" docu. There is reference ot a solution not using WWI which is "part" of SAP EHS.

Regarding:

For printing Labels from GLM, do SAP suggest / requires any particular printers (physical printer to print the labels) ?

Depends on your need. If you execute an inquiry in this FORUM you will find reference to "high volume printing" in GLM. In reality: if you use WWI: There are only "physical reasons of type of label" to use special printers (as Zebra printers etc.). And because of "Bar code" etc. Check this FORUM as well.. Not an easy topic with Bar Code

Regarding:

I have few doubts in installing Generation server also. Can u provide me the logic behind the generation server, synchronous server, EHS Management server. I

Don't go deep into that. You can not compare SDS printing to GLM printing etc.. Just do it  like SAP is recommending for GLM. Please separate the topics:

"generation server" from "synchronous or asynchronous".  Regarding EHS Manage, ent server: this is the same. Check e.g. http://help.sap.com/erp2005_ehp_06/helpdata/en/69/46e98392e3c04ea65c1b682cc98cfa/content.htm?framese...

Chapter EH&S Management Server

Regarding any WWI topic: please check WWI cookbook: anything is explained therein

Regarding:

2. Using any of the above 6 scenarios one will print the label. But how to check whether labels are printed for a sales order (for eg) or not..? Once the label is printed, how to block the particular sales order from printing label again ?

There are severla levels of "answer": First: you can prepare GLM using a "log". The log should give you indication which label has been found processed etc.

Second: at the end: anything ends as a "SAP print stream to SAP Spool"

Third: there is no "physical" guarantee that label is printed (same as MSDS/SDS)

Regarding the second topic. mmh interesting question. I am not sure how the standard handles that; i would assume a second print is possible (reason is the same like MSDS: may be there was a "misprint" of label; therefore it does not always makes sense to "hinder" second printing; it is a matter of "user training" etc. from my point of view

Labeling Scenarios: reading cross:

http://help.sap.com/erp2005_ehp_05/helpdata/EN/3b/bea82cff7411d5b854006094b92d29/content.htm?framese...

Chapter: Labeling Scenario

You can prepare your own scenario. Which of the above mentioned once is the right "template": this you need to check yourself
