"Duplicate Check" button not available in Change Request screen

Hi Gurus

We have configured duplicate search for MDG Materials as follows:

"Duplication Check is already present for Material as part of the standard content.

You can activate it through:

1) Go to  MDGIMG ->General Settings -> Data Quality and Search ->Search and Duplicate check -> Configure Duplicate check for entity types.

2) Create a new entry in the table for MM.

Now we should be able to:

3) Then you can see a new button when you create a new CR,called "Duplicate check"

Pre-requisites (in place and working):

You should have already configured your enterprise search."

We however, still do not see the "Duplicate Check" button in the CR.

What are we missing?

Hi,

There is no separate duplicate check button. The check button will do a duplicate check as well.

In that case the documentation around this and the screenshots are incorrect. Even MDG 7* documentation shows this button.

That said, the check button itself is not performing this action. I create a new material as a copy from another. This means that it is an exact duplicate and the check button does not indicate an error.

I also noticed that the duplicate check prompts the requestor that he is about to create a duplicate. He accepts this and continues. The check button for the approver does not return any error about creating a potential duplicate.

Surely it is more important (or just as equally important) for the approver to know that a potential duplicate will be created?

I am bit late:-) It is indeed possible to trigger the duplicate check at different steps of Change Request, like during creation,Processing,Approving,Revision etc..for that you have to do the customization settings as mentioned in the below attachment

Hi Danie,

  SAP MDG-Material needs TREX to be configured as well. Did you configure Enterprise Search? If so, may be there is an issue there. Does your Material Search work fine?

I have received feedback from SAP that the "duplicate check" button is now part of the "Check" button. I have created a new item as a duplicate of the same item that is already in SAP. Nothing prompted me that I was about to create a duplicate. I then submitted, approved and interfaced this item to SAP. Item created in SAP successfully. I then created another item in MDG as a duplicate of the same item I just interfaced to SAP and the system prompted me that I was about to create a duplicate.

This to me means that MDG is only searching for potential duplicate creation within the inactive material data (MDG) and not the active material data (SAP).

Is there somewhere a setting for the duplicate check that can be changed to include both active and inactive material data?

It's great to know this and it also gave me the comparison point between ehp5 and ehp6 versions of MDG.

Regarding your next question:

case1: if you are using the MDG on operational ERP

can you please check the BAdI provided under the search configuration nodes?

BAdI: Search for Data in Reuse Active Area

BAdI: Access to Data in Reuse Active Area for Search Indexing

Both of these are enhancement spots provided which helpw searching the data from reuse active area. I hope in your case you are using reuse data model for materials.

Personally, I have not implemented any of the above BAdIs but going purely by the help words for your help.

case 2: if you are using the MDG as standalone or Co Deployment and want to search in connected system for material data:

option 1: Please configure T-Rex with Enterprise search connectors if you have these applications within the landscape.

option 2: if it is missing try pulling the existance check BAPIs as web services as event triggers within your UI during CR processing.

Option 1 follows standard configurations as mentioned in the application help guids of SAP and option 2 will be a pure customizing effort.

Hi Danie,

If I understand your questions correctly, the MDG check (Duplicate) is not working for the records created/ upload/ existing in ECC system (using T.C).

In case of records created by CR from MDG can be seen during Duplicate check.

Reason could be for records created/ loaded in back end ERP system, certain fields could have been mandatory or missing compared to Fields in MDG Change Request. (e.x. Authorization Grp)

Please compare the records, this could be the reason why the records created in backend are not coming up during Duplicate search.

while I am using the standard Ui for material processing, I am able to see the Duplicate check option as an approver under the drop down list within the SHOW button.

I am not sure if you want to see that option but it is there for me in standrd UI. I did not customize it. the other settings are done as per standard confgurations suggested in help.sap.com web page.

I could also see it only when I got the approval request and not as a requestor. I already attached a screenprint in my earlier response. some how I am not able to paste it in this reply. (this needs another thread now for SND issue resolution ). I am using NWBC as my UI here.
