MDM to SAP BW Configuration and Extraction of Data

Hi All,

How to extract data from MDM to BW. I mean, how to connect MDM to BW and later how to extract. I have read few docs in the SDN but didnt understand. Few of the posts asked to install ABAP API at Saint Tcode, But I dont know who will do that if it is missing. I hope it is Basis.

If some one worked on configuration part and extraction part please help me out.

HI Saimukesh,

When you say extraction of MDM data do you mean one time extraction or a integration scneario with multiple data extraction.

If it is only one time,you can extract data in flat file or xml using syndicator and pull that in BW.

But if you wish to inetgrate the two systems then you would have to complete the configuration steps mentione  in the blogs.

Hi Sai,

With the help of MDM syndicator, data from MDM can be sent to BW.

Please tell me if PI is involved in landscape? If so, it will be easier for MDM consultant to create a syndication map which will extract data from MDM and send it to BW via PI. If there's no PI in landscape, then you might have to check use ABAP API's to extract data from MDM. I have not heard of BW using ABAP APIs since it executes report. I have heard of R3 system using ABAP APIs to extract data from MDM.

Flow should be as follows if PI is available in landscape: MDM-->PI-->BW.

Many thanks for answering my Query. Can you tell me what are the steps involved are required to configure a connection between MDM- > PI -> BW?

Also, I would like to know  who will configure the connections and the versions of all the 3 required.

Are you sure R3 (base on WAS 620) system can  use MDM ABAP API? I have ever raised a thread to ask about it,  and you replied then.

Hi Xin,

Yes i am pretty sure that R3 system can use ABAP API to extract data from MDM. Its just that  i am not sure about version compatibility with WAS 620, 640 or higher.  My project uses ABAP API's to extract data from MDM 5.5. Please let me know if any queries.

Hi Ali,

Can you tell me which scenario suits me. My scenario is I will have master data from MDM and Transaction Data from ECC. So, I need to develop report on the extracted data which is from MDM and ECC. You told me there are 2 ways of extracting data, but I am not sure which one is easy and reliable and by the by I am also not that good at ABAP. Hence, suggest me which one suits me as I dont have any clue to choose one.

Guys,

I have a requirement where the data flows from ECC to SAP BW. Now the user wants to push the data from SAP BW to MDM using ABAP API bypassing the Open Hub Destination/Tables ( Bcoz, user doesn't want to have a new repository created in MDM with the approach of OHD)

I am aware that, data can be extracted from SAP ECC tables to MDM using ABAP API and I have seen the threads/discussions relating to that.

But I am not sure whether the data can be extracted from SAP BW to MDM using ABAP API. Is it possible to implement this approach? If so, Kindly help me out the procedure of doing the same.
