Hi Venkata,

SAP released two new patches for BI 4.0 SP6 with Patch 3 released today. They address two issues that has been a common concern for all developers.

  1. The BEx variables can now be mapped to the excel cells for input.
  2. They also take in key values without the annoying XLS00009 error message popup.

Hi Venkata,

Mapping BEx variable to spreadsheet has been almost impossible at times.

Best way is you go for Query Prompt Select while working with BEx variable.

There have been many limitation on BEx variable while using it in Dashboards.

If you have different KEY and TEXT values for a variable then you would find BEx variable grayed out while mapping it to spreadsheet.

What makes BEx variable enable to use, even I have not come to any conclusion so far.

Tejas

Hi Teja,

Thanks for your reply, Most of our Bex queries being developed on variables only. Hitherto we have been developing our dashboards on web services through those variables. We are planning switch them to query browser at dashboard level for better performance.

Venkata,

You cannot map a BEx variable to the excel spreadsheet for input. The BEx variables will only be able to take inputs from Query Prompt Selector component. If you're compelled to use custom components to feed input to the query or map to excel sheet, you'll have to remove the BEx variables. Include the fields you expect to use as variables in the free characteristics area and then you can create prompts on these fields using the query panel.
