Hi Venkata,
Mapping BEx variable to spreadsheet has been almost impossible at times.
Best way is you go for Query Prompt Select while working with BEx variable.
There have been many limitation on BEx variable while using it in Dashboards.
If you have different KEY and TEXT values for a variable then you would find BEx variable grayed out while mapping it to spreadsheet.
What makes BEx variable enable to use, even I have not come to any conclusion so far.
Regards,
Tejas

Venkata,
You cannot map a BEx variable to the excel spreadsheet for input. The BEx variables will only be able to take inputs from Query Prompt Selector component. If you're compelled to use custom components to feed input to the query or map to excel sheet, you'll have to remove the BEx variables. Include the fields you expect to use as variables in the free characteristics area and then you can create prompts on these fields using the query panel.
