Hi Werner,

i also did migrations from aix/oracle to oracle exadata. we user database independet SAP export / import method.

do you have specific questions for BW migrations or Exadata migrations in general?

It is not a problem to migrate a systems database to run on exadata. The exadata itself is a very complex topic with lots of things to consider. DB runs with user oracle, etc.

kind regards,

Hi,

why don't you take a look at the SAP documentation for this?

http://scn.sap.com/community/oracle

=> Oracle Engineered Systems

there you have two docuemnts:

SAP NetWeaver and Oracle Exadata Database Machine

Using SAP NetWeaver with the Oracle Exadata Database Machine: A Best Practices Guide

Being the first one (page 18) the most interested for your question. But the second also has a chapter about "Migration of SAP Databases"

Hello !!

Kiran, I made 5 migrations for SAP-Exadata ( BW - R3 - QA and DEVs ).

For database with less than 1TB, I made export/import with dowtime into system no more than 3hrs.

BW - with 23 TB, we use Golden Gate and downtime about 1hs

With Datapump we can get velocity, using parallel and SAP have no constraints so, you can make 30-000 tables in the same time if you hardware is good.

I separate 20 jobs ( 30000/20 = 1500 tables for each job )

Do you want to make a migrations for Exadata ? how big is your database today ?

Hi Sandro,

Thank you for your reply!!

In our landscape we are planning to migrate all the systems to exadata. They want to just separate the database and move it to exadata leaving SAP application on the current AIX box.

I want to know:

1. What would be the procedure that we need to follow as I don't see any proper migration document given by SAP for this kind of migration?

2. As the SAP will be on AIX and database will be on Linux(exadata), what steps should we need to take care of?

Can you please answer my above questions? Appreciate your help in this regard.

Regards,

Kiran
