Load Report Failed VS2012

Former Member

I am getting Load Report Failed when I try to open a particular CR report.

I have 6 reports and 5 of them work but I have one of them that fails every time.

I can't even drag and drop into VS2012 or VS2010. I can only open it in VS2008.

1st message when drag&drop:

2nd message when drag&drop:

diff rpt file, had no issues when drag&drop:

I had SP5 installed, then saw this thread http://scn.sap.com/message/14194418#14194418

so I installed SP6 (exe) and I'm still having the same issue.

Thanks,

James

Hello James

Many thanks for creating a new Discussion on this. Really appreciated

Sounds quite strange, but would you be able to attach the report here? If so, you'll have to rename it to *.txt, then click on the "Use advanced editor" link and attach. The system will zip up the report. No need for saved data.

Hi James,

Ludek asked me about this one also, I have the same problem as you. It won't open in CR XI R2 either. In VS 2008 can you preview the report and then you should be able to export it to RPT format.

See if that then works in VS 2010/2012.

File size seems a bit small also, could be the rpt file is corrupted. But odd it works in VS2008 but not anywhere else.

I opened up VS2008.

I dragged & dropped the rpt file.

I previewed the rpt (it connects to our DB) added some parameters and it worked fine.
I then exported it and now the .rpt file is 70k instead of 32k.

When I tried to drag & drop it into VS2010 or VS2012 same exact issue...

I think the reason that it is so small, is that most of the text in the output of the report is just data that gets printed again and again using the same template, these aren't too fancy, but they are efficient.

This is actually the largest of my reports, the smallest is 15kb

Attached is the preview export just in case that helps...

Thanks,

James

Hello James

Thank you for the report files.

I mounted a pure VS 2008 image with just CR 10.5 on it and sure enough, I am able to open it just fine. I've been fooling around with the rpt as time frees up for me; e.g.; removing parts and bits and objects from teh report. So far no joy. Don is going to email the report to R&D see if they can help us out also. I'll keep fooling around with the rpt as the day goes...

NP

This is one of those issues that really bother both Don and me, stubborn old...  that we are.

Hope this is not critical, but we'll keep kicking at it.

Hello James

Keep your fingers crossed and I think we may have found the issue; two parameters of the same name:

Apparently, CR 10.2 was the one and the only version of CR that would allow two parameters of the same name. Any other version would either not allow it, or alias the parameter name. So. Open the report in the VS designer, and remove the unused parameter. I can not do it, asx when I do, I get prompted for a db log in.

Please let me know either way as I'd like to create a KBA on this.

Ludek,

That fixed it!

Thanks for all your help.

I have a few other things where I was hoping you could point me in the right direction.

  1. I'd like to be able to change the DB connection of the Report, programatically via VB or C#
  2. also we are looking at trying to speed up the report creation via:
    • report optimization
    • multiple threads
    • etc.

Thanks Again,

James
