ERP 6.0 EHP6 update

Former Member

Hello all,

I'm updating an ERP 6.0 EHP5 system to ERP 6.0 EHP6.

In Mopz, when prompted to select technical usages, there are some that are unselectable (greyed, see attached image) whereas they are currently used in the sys with EHP5 (for instance integration package for SWIFT, Finbasis standalone, ...).

What that this mean exactly?

What are the implications of continuing the update without selecting the components ?

Thanks in advance,

Adam

Hi Adam,

At a time there can be multiple active instances in a system. Technical instances belongs to different business areas.

Ex: SAP Netweaver as SAP standard product has multiple instances. Similarly case with ERP systems.

The Technical Instances which are grayed out are already available in your system. With Upgrade in SAP system you have option to activate extra technical instances.(Adding extra business functionality).

SG

Two points:

1. They are not called technical instances, they are technical usages. This is a minor, punctualization, but if you search for documentation with technical instances, you will find no hits for the matter at hand.

2. There are two types of grey out: some are installed already in the source EHP version, and they are greyed out and preselected (this is to avoid mixing EHP versions) , and others are just not selectable because the requisite product instances are not present, which makes installing the technical usages impossible (example: if your system is pure ABAP, the Java technical usages will be greyed out and not preselected).

Best regards,

Hello,

Greyed out and preselected means that the technical usage is installed in a previous EHP version.

Greyed out and not selectable means that the requisite product instances are not installed. You can check the requisite instances for a technical usage if you click on the technical usage name. The missing requirements will be marked in red.

Hi Adam,

There are two possibilities here.

1. If system is not maintained correctly at SMSY as the upgrade requires the Stack.xml and  the system calculates the required add-on target components as part of the maintenance operation in the maintenance optimizer (MOPZ).

Please check if you have maintained the system correctly as SMSY.  You can check below mentioned note:

SAP Note No. 1326576 SAP NetWeaver Systems Containing SAP ERP Software Components

SAP Note No. 1539356 Upgrade to NW 7.3 with SEM-BW, FINBASIS, SAP_BS_FND, WEBCUIF

2. technical usage selected is not appropriate.

Please refer below mentioned KBA. This will address all the FAQ's related to upgrade for SAP NetWeaver Systems Containing SAP ERP Software like SEM-BW and FINBASIS
