Data source transports in BW

Hi All,

From ECC Dev to ECC Quality i moved TR and success, after that i replicated Data source from ECC Q to BW Q went fine. after that i am unable actiavte data source in BWQ. active icon was disabled, but by using program i can manage. but just need to know is this normal behaviour?

Next i planned to move BW D data source to BWQ, this may over writes and active version? is this way works?? i have further TRs which are Cube, transformations, info pak and DTP.

About objects no problm all r existed in all environments.

am using BW 7.3. am bit kind new to TR.

You can transport the activated datasource from the BW dev to BW Q it will acivate the datasource in BW Q this is the standard procedure.Make sure that your TR contains only the BW datasource.

Thanks for your replay.

Other  than transport connection, is there any way to collect data source into TR in bw. in TR conncetion am unable find my data source in bw dev. i gone to data souurce --> collected objetcs, double clicked, nothing comes up.

same way  i gone to inso source also not found. mine RSDS.

GO to your data source double click

on the top menu you will find object directory entry option click on it and follow accordingly. As after assigning the package and saving it asks for a transport request.

Simplest way I can think of is to go to BW development, choose the data source. Go to Change mode and hit activate button. You will be offered with ACTIVATE ANYWAYS option as its already active. Click on OK and there you go.. You should be able to capture it in a new request .

Also I should specify that this will not happen if the datasource has already been captured by you in your own created request, and if that request is still not released. Because all activations then will be overwritten onto the old request. To figure out which request it is you can follow the suggestion in the pervious answer - Datasource - Extras - Object Directory Entry - Lock Overview.

Hi All,

Thank you one and all. You guys helped me lot.

TR = Transport Request.

What i followed for Data source transport:

1. ECC data source TR moved to ECC quality. it was success.

2. Replicated data source from Ecc qulaity to BW Quality.

3. After the replication, data source was inactive and change mode not possible at quality system.

4. Activate button also disbaled in bw qulaity, so not possible to activate replicated data source.

     4.1 By using program SE38 - RSDS_DATASOURCE_ACTIVATE_ALL, also we can ctivate.    

            But i followed thru Transport procedure only.

5. Moved BW active version data source thru TR into BW quality, went fine and my BW quality data source was in Active.

My steps will be useful, if any one come acorss the thread.

Anyhow follow experts advice.

Replicate datasource to quality of BI syatem and import datasource from BI dev to BI quality. It makes DS active.

You can go to change mode and activate. if you dont have authorization for change, you need to transport activated DS again from BWD to BWQ

Hi Raman,

After replication from ECC Q  to BW Q,  just click on change and activate the data source or you can activate the entire ECC Q datasources which takes long time.

Hi,

Yes, when you replicate datasource from ECC Q to BW Q , it will be in inactive version.

Now transport the request which has Activated Datasource, from BWD  to BWQ.

Then inactive datasource will become active.

Do the same in case of ECC P to BWP.

Hi Raman,

          If you do not have change authorizations then you will not be able to maintain objects. The best way is to capture the replicated version of the datasource present in BW Dev first in a seperate request and move it to BW quality. This object will get in the active and replicated version of the datasource.

Hi,

Yes first you need to Transport the datasources from ECC Dev to ECc Qa

Once that is done then you may replicate the datasource.After that you may transport the BW datasource from DEV to QA.So if at all your datasource was in modified state then will become active after BW transportation.

Still the problem persists then you may use the program to activate the datasource in QA as the system will not be open for modification of objects like this.

Hi,

After replicating the DS, you have to go to change mode then activate button will be enabled. You need not to move BWD to BWQ.
