Hello All,

I am installing Distributed SAP Netweaver 7.3 on Opensuse 12.3.

I am stuck during the installation of Primary Application Server at " Start Instance "  phase.

I see in the Dev_Dispatcher that the uuidd deamon is not running but, I see that the uuidd has been installed and able to get the id also.

My question is it Mandatory to have uuidd for SAP installation ?

Thanks & Regards,

Ananda Swaroop G K

First get uuid package installed. Details are in SAP Note 1391070.

If this is already installed, you need to run :

Run as root:

service uuidd stop

service uuidd start

Check should be OK for this :

All packages required are shown in output. Pay attention to 32-bit/64-bit versions of these packages. You have installed x86_64 but required 32-bit.

Hi Ananda,

as you can read from SAP note 1391070 (where Deepak quoted from), the installation of the uuid daemon is strongly recommended for various reasons.

Nevertheless, an inactive uuidd should not hinder the system from starting but report warnings, like sick messages - so your is probably caused by something different.

What does dev_disp complain about?

Best Regards,

Alexander.

Hi Ananda,

SAP ABAP and Java applications use universally unique identifiers (UUIDs) as database keys and for other purposes. On Linux those UUIDs are provided by the operating system and in case of problems with UUIDs you need to perform an upgrade on specific parts of your Linux operating system.

UUIDs are generated on Linux by the "libuuid.so" shared library which comes with your Linux distribution. Older versions of "libuuid" have various bugs - e.g. duplicate UUIDs are generated - and as such it is important that you install the latest available libuuid library.

Especially with SAP products using 7.10 kernel or higher, UUIDs are getting more important. In this case an errorneous libuuid implementation can produce database inconsistenses that can be dangerous in productive systems. This issue arises from UUID duplicates that are possible when UUIDs are created massively in a short time period. Currently we know about such massive UUID creations in SAP banking services, in SAP SCM 7.00 EhP 1 and higher (SAP note 1640217), in SAP CRM 7.00 EhP 2, and during upgrades.

For additional information refer SAP

Hope this helps.
