Netweaver 7.4 install error

I am trying to install Netweaver 7.4.  I get the following error when the install process is trying to start the Java Engine.

      An error occurred while processing option SAP NetWeaver 7.4 > MaxDB >
      SAP Systems > Application Server Java > Standard System > Standard
      System( Last error reported by the step: Java processes of instance
      KB1/J01 [Java: RUNNING] did not reach state STARTING after 20:00
      minutes. Giving up.)

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Please let me know what kinds of logs or other info is needed to help with troubleshooting.

Have you confirmed your MaxDB system is up and running and the SIDadm account can log into the MaxDB server?

Could you also pull up your installation directory of your MaxDB system (ex. on a Windows 2008 R2 MSSQL it would be 'C:\Program Files\sapinst_instdir\NW740\MSS\INSTALL\NW740\MSS\DISTRIBUTED\JAVA\DB') and look through the latest time stamped logs; I have had good luck with sapinst_dev.log, sapinst.log, jload.java.log, Jload.trc and jload.log.

Keith, so what did you do to fix it.  Was your DB not running?

Hi Keith,

Can you check if the dev_server0 is already been created in the work directory? If so, can you please check it (and also the bootstrap log).
