crystal report 2011 viewer crash

Hi there,

We are developing an application which generates reports in .rpt format. When we open the various types of report using Crystal Report Viewer 2011 all of them work fine except for one, which causes Crystal Report Viewer to crash ( - [Internal Error DataViewL573] ).

The application is built with Visual Studio 2005. The reports are generated with the Crystal Decisions plugin. The "bad" report can be viewed in Visual Studio just fine.

I have two reports; One that loads fine in the Viewer (GOOD), and one that causes it to crash (BAD). I have attached them but I had to change the file extension to .txt to get around the filter. If anyone has time to look at these please remember to change the file extension back to .rpt before you open them.

Thanks in advance,

Adam.

Hello Adam

I moved your post to the Crystal Reports for VS Space.

Crystal Reports 2011 does not install any SDKs. Can you please double check the version of CR you are using and be more specific what viewer you are actually using?

Hi Ludek, thank you for your reply!

I used this to view the files:

http://scn.sap.com/docs/DOC-29774

Crystal Reports Viewer 2011.

To clarify, when I open these files, the BAD one will crash but the GOOD one will not.

The files are generated using our application which is built in VS 2005.

I want to know what is wrong with the BAD file so I can change our application.

Cheers,
Adam.

Hi Ludek,

I can view that one fine! What did you do to it to make it work?

Cheers,

Adam

Your Bad.rpt loads fine in my DataLink Viewer:

Here is a link to an image of the opened report:

Thanks for looking at this one Ido. Yeah - this one is weird. I ran it in CR 2008 viewer and it ran fine. Then I opened it up in CR 2011 - no problem. Save. Open in CR 2011 viewer, voila...

So, I'm hoping that will work out for Adam.

Hi Ludek, Ido,

I appreciate all the help you've both given me so far.

So:

- Works with CR Viewer 2008 (tested here also)

- Works with DataLink Viewer

- Works with TheReportViewer

- Works with CR 2011

- Crashes with CR Viewer 2011

- Exportable to Text using Rainforest Software's Exporter Utility

You mentioned that you opened the file in CR 2011, saved it, and then it opens ok in CR 2011 Viewer.

Do you have any idea what CR 2011 did to the file to make it work? Is this a bug in the CR 2011 Viewer or do I need to fix my code to generate the report differently?

Best Regards,

Adam.

Hello Adam

I have no idea what opening the file in CR 2011 did to "fix" the issue. It may be that there was a minor corruption and saving it got rid of that. But I'm just blowing smoke here hoping this is the one an only report that will do this.
