How to Connect to ABB Scada Vantage using UDC ?

Hello Folks,

I need a help to connect SAP xMII server (UDC is installed in this server) to ABB Scada system (installed in one Windows 2003 server machine) for querying Tag based data.

Since, I need to do a Tag based query. So , I want to use UDC Connector Tag based approach.

DSN has already been created in Windows 2003 server where ABB Scada 32 bit (Polyhedra Enhanced 32-bit Driver) is intsalled.

I have gone through the help document present in SAP MII community but couldn't resolve the issue. I am not clear with the IP adress and Port from where need to be provided.

Please help me to resolve this issue to connect ABB Scada Vantage 32 bit System using UDC with my MII Server. Or if there is any other approach ?

I am very new to SAP MII so any help will be highly appreciated !

Thanks ,

Gaurang

Hi Gaurang

Were you able to  solve your issue?

In addition to the information given by Steve and Micheal, after you have installed and connected you ABB SCADA to PCo via OPC DA you would have to:-

  1. You need to define a source (OPC DA) system and a destination (MII) system.
  2. Configure an Agent Instance which would work as a middleman between source and destination
  3. In this Agent instance go to query ports tab and assign a port for MII to connect. This port number should not have been assigned previously for any other system. You need to put the same port while connecting through PCo data connector
  4. You also may require to register the PCo in your System Landscape Directory.

Hope this helps

Hi Mike,

Thanks for the reply.

I  am using MII 12.2 version. I am not sure about UDS.  I have not much idea about PCo connectors as well.

If you could provide how to start with UDS or Pco connector that would be helpful. I have only SAP MII Server 12.2 ready with me and one Windows 2003 server machine having ABB Scada vantage server.

What all will be required to install or configure to connect them ? using anything UDS or PCo

Thanks,

Gaurang

Hi Gaurang,

I would search back through other postings and in particular read the ones from Steven Stubbs.  I think he just posted a response for ABB Scada system thread, but not sure.  PCo comes free with MII, so you should already have it with your MII 12.2.  If not, you should be able to download it from Services Marketplace.

Gaurang,

Please download and install SAP Plant Connectivity 2.3 (PCo) from Service Marketplace.  You can obtain a license for PCo for free based on current ownership of SAP MII.

SCADVantage supports both OPC DA for current value Tag retrieval and OPC HDA for historical tag data retrieval.  PCo has agents for both of these interfaces.

If you install PCo on the MII server, you will also have to set up Microsoft DCOM configuration on both the MII and SCADAVantage servers so tht  the OPC Client (PCo) can communicate with the OPC Server (SCADAVantage) over a network.  If you can install PCo on the SCADAVantage server then DCOM configuration is not required, and MII can communicate with PCo over the network without issue. Also, please review the installation and configuration guides for PCo prior to installing, these are available from the SAP help site.

Hi Gaurang,

What version of MII are you using?  It looks like it would be an older version, probably 11.5, but please confirm.  Also which version of UDS are you working with?  Have you considered using PCo (Plant Connector) which has replaced the old xMII UDS application?
