BO4 - WEBI rich client + java_home+not starting

Hi,

Usingh BO4 SP6 and a client machine is having issues with starting webi rich client. Clicking on it - nothing happening.

Reckon this to do with java

When type command prompt java -version shows as old version of java (1.4.2.0.3)

Understand bo4 only supports 1.6 and 1.7.

Plan to set and ENVIRONMENT_VARIABLE for JAVA_HOME for this.

Assume best to use a USER environment variable?

Also,   it it enough to set it as C:\Program Files\java\jre7  and include this in the PATH environemnt variable?

Do you need to explcitly include \bin?

Also is there a way to tell exactly which version of java  bo4 sp6 installs as the version of java installed is 1.7 update 21 but this has been installed separately so don't know if bo installed an earlier version. (e.g 1.7 update 15 or earlier.

Ther are multiple version of java on this machine want to esnure user_environment variable only has the one.

Also assuem user environment variable takes precedence over system environment variables.

Is this the case?

Thanks

Webi rich client will use SAP Java from the BOE install. It'll get its parameters from registry.

java showing version 1.4 in command prompt most likely is not your root cause.

Run Proc mon and see what webi rich client app is not able to load.

Just an update.

Issue was caused due to some kind of problem with the user account on pc.

Tried login to pc with other user account and started fine.

I know it's a while ago now but can you remember what the user account issue was? we're facing the same issue with BI 4.1 SP5
