Why .NET Framework is required for SBOP BI 4.0 server installation?

Hi everyone!

I was thinking about the installation process of a brand new SBOP BI 4.0 on Win server.. and I can't figure out why .NET Framework is required for SBOP BI 4.0 server part.. I know that this Microsoft component is necessary for BI Clients installation (like QaaWS and BI Widget) but what I want to ask you all is what can this component offers me during or after a BI server platform installation??

Hi Mirko,

the .NET FW is required to run managed code. for e.g: managed DLL's could be used by any executables like CMS.exe etc. the reason you need FW 3.5 at least is because the developers used FW 3.5 or higher while developing them and used some features only availble in 3.5 or higher.

I think this question should have been posted on some MS related forum on what is FW and why do *some* Windows applications need them.

you can Google to understand the difference between managed and native DLL's. it will help you understand the role of .NET FW.
