Hi,
We are in the process of upgrading our BI 7.0 system to BW 7.3. Our plan is to take a copy of the existing BI 7.0 system to to new system and perform upgrade in the new system, so as not to affect the ongoing activities.
First, dev BI is copied to new system and new system is upgraded to 7.3 and so on to PRD BI system. In this approach we are concerned about the production system down time of ECC.
Can anyone share your experience in upgrade projects from BI 7.0 to BW 7.3.
I went across the documents and threads posted in SCN but could not find any.

Selva, why are you worried about ECC downtime if you are going only to upgrade BW?
There is no activity in BW upgrade which requires downtime of any of source systems.
You approach is right, usually upgrade projects start upgrade of DEV, then QAS and finally of PRD system.
cheers

Hi
Why do you need an ECC downtime?
You can go through the upgrade process without any copies, that is my experience.

Hi PC and Martin,
Thanks for your reply.
Yes, if we are upgrading the existing BI 7.0 system to BW 7.3 system, then we don't need any ECC down time.
Here we are not upgrading the existing system. But we do a system copy to a new system and upgrade the new system.
The reason for copying to new system is they don't want to freeze the ongoing development.Development work to be carried out in parallel.

Hi Selva,
I can understand the ongoing development along with the Upgrade.
We are coming across the same scenario right now.
Our strategy is to perform the development on the old system (7.0) and then redo the changes in new system (7.31)
Reason since the version of both system are different (7.0 vs 7.31) so client don't want to take risk and choose redo the work in new system.
As per my knowledge, one can easily move the transport between old and new system unless your are not using 3x object which may be a risk factor.
I found below blog very helpful for upgrade

Thank-You.
