Problem when installing NetWeaver 2004 on MaxDB

Hello,

my goal is to  create a lightweight SAP installation, which could be used in a VM on a slow computer.

Therefore I have decided to go for NetWeaver 2004 and use MaxDB.

The installation went fine. After sapinst finished, I've noticed, that SAP is not running. I tried to start it, but:

Database start failed

# cat startdb.log

I recalled, that during the sapinst steps, there was nothing like Installing the DB software or Importing the DB,

as it can be seen in NetWeaver 7.0 for example. I went through the NetWeaver 2004 installation guide, but I

didn't find almost nothing about DB installation... No luck either on google!! They only explain how to install

MaxDB if not used with SAP.

Does the DB has to be installed in advance (like an installation on MSSQL) and if yes - what would be the

procedure for doing that ?

Thanks a lot for your great help!

Hi Symon,

As per my experience it is not required to install maxdb first like MS SQL.

sapinst will ask you for maxdb rdbms dvd.

Now you need to verify whether database it installed or not? if possible install db studio and check.

if database installed check Xuser settings are fine.

Thanks,

Venkat

Hi Venkat and thanks for the answer!

No, the database wasn't installed at all. I have installed it manually after sapinst.

Then the problem with xuser not found came. Yesterday I did some additional research

on this webpage and I found the 4 commands to recreate the users too. But most probably

I don't have a database at all, so I'm really not sure how to create the DB for SAP and

there is TOTALLY NO DOCUMENTATION on that !!

And in the end, it remains a total mystery, why sapinst didn't do nothing about the DB.

Although it asked about the RDBMS DVD and it accepted the location without any errors.

I have tried to use newer sapinst versions, but I couldn't even start an installation with them.

I've also checked the SAP note about the Software Provisioning Manager, but it seems to

support only versions 7.0 and above.

PLEASE HEEEEELP 🙂
