Access denied on Shares and Service Control Actions

This one is very hard to analyze because you will typically look at the wrong places:

configuration:

• Windows Server 2012 running on Hyper-V ESX 5.0
• addtional disk D: is defined in VMware as hot plugable disk
• audit object access policy is enabled in Windows Server 2012
• a network share is pointing to a directory on this disk
• a Windows Service executable is located on this disk

Every attempt to start/stop the service or access to a directory or file below the share will result in an access denied error regardless of any existing access control list of the service or share.
