Problem when exporting to excel

I have a crystal report which has about 13 columns. It looks fine in Preview. However, when we export to excel

on some lines some fields move over 1 to the right. This happens to this type of line. they have a sub-report providing

a user name. and they have a 'no notes found' printed in the notes section. Yet this doesn't happen in preview.

any ideas on how to fix this?
