Error in TPSETTINGS: transdir not set.

Hello Experts,

We are facing one issue during the import of transports.

Error-

Error in TPSETTINGS : transdir not set.

E-TPSETTINGS Could not be opened

EXIT
tp returncode summary:

tp finished with return code : 208

checks made:

1) DIR_TRANS parameter is already there in Deault Profile

2) tp connect <SID> pf -...   is finished with RC-0

3) Profiels exist- TPPARAM and TP_<DOM>.PFL

4) transdir exists in TPPARAM and .PFL file.

What could be the possible reason for this error and how to resolve this ?

Questions:

1) Does parameters in TPPARAM and .PFL profiles are case sensitive?

2) Does existence of both profiles creates issues ?

Thanks,
Swati

    Hi,

Can you see that the TRANSDIR is set at STMS configuration?

You can check it out at : STMS->SYSTEM OVERVIEW-> doble click at domain controler.

At tab settings you must ser transdir.

    Cheers

      Hi,

Is your profile TPPARAM i.e. TP_DOMAIN.PFL file accessible in /usr/sap/trans/bin is permissions also correct.

tp connect SID - what do you get when you try this?

      Will give you better error.

Also DIR_TRANS is set out there.. and is accessible..

We need the fix to this on urgent basis ..

Experts - Kindly Suggest on this issue.

We want to import the transport w/o giving the profile name.

    One concern -

In TPPARAM TRANSDIR parameter is in lowercase and in TP_DOMAIN_<SID>.PFL the TRANSDIR parameter is in uppercase.

Could this be the reason for above error.

    Thanks,

    SWati

      Hi Swati.

      Unix is case sensitive.

      go to your transdir directory.

Type pwd within your transdir directory (present working directory)

      /usr/sap/trans/bin

Change the parameter to match exactly results of PWD as linux is case sensitive.

      Regards

      J

    Hi,

    Transacation STMS

Select Menu: Overview -> Systems. OR select the press the Systems

    Overview Button (Shift+F6)

Select the relevant system on the list and select menu: System-> change

    Select the TAB "Transport Tool"

Enter or edit the entry for transdir.

Press save and you are done.

On the OS to test this you need to do the following

Goto the transport directory and then to the bin directory

    \trans\bin>

    Execute the following

    \trans\bin> tp connect DEV pf=.\TP_DOMAIN_DEV.PFL

Note that the pf= part tells tp to use the TMS pfl file. (Default it

looks to a file called TPPARAM.)

    Regards,

    Johan

    Hello ,

Transdir is already set in Transport tool.

    For your step:

Note that the pf= part tells tp to use the TMS pfl file. (Default it

looks to a file called TPPARAM.)

One question - Does parameters in TPPARAM profile parameters are case sensitive..

Reason being,  In TPPARAM TRANSDIR parameter is in lowercase and in TP_DOMAIN_<SID>.PFL the TRANSDIR parameter is in uppercase.

    Waiting for response !

    Thanks ,
    Swati

    Hi Swati,

Does TPSETTINGS and TP_DOMAIN_(SID).PFL exist in /usr/sap/trans/bin

If not copy file TP_DOMAIN_(SID).PFL to TPSETTINGS

      Hello Johan ,

      Thanks for your reply !

There is no TPSETTINGS file under /usr/sap/trans/bin.

What is the significance of this file ?

In some other systems , there is no TPSETTINGS file exist, and TP_DOMAIN_SID.PFL and TPPTARAM profiles exists  but tp command runs fro OS level is wokring fine.

I dont understand this , how is it working there.?

Can you suggest here , wht could be the reason for this.

      Thanks,
      Swati
