Technical Help entry from Standard Context Menu randomly gone

Hi folks,

System: ECC 6.06 NW 7.03 (ABAPST 731) Stack 6

we recently are having the problem, that for some users, the entry "technical help" has disappeared from the standard WDA context menu. For example, my colleague and me are having the same Backend Roles, i.e. authorizations on Client A and Client B, we also both have SAP_ALL and SAP_NEW, furthermore the global WDA parameters are identical on both clients, however, the system behaves like this:

Colleague: Client A --> Can see/use technical help, Client B --> Can see/use technical help

Me: Client A --> Can see/use technical help, Client B --> Cannot see/use technical help

I can't make sense of this and not having the technical help when developing on standard applications is making things really obstructive and tedious.

Does anyone have an idea?

Cheers, Lukas

Is the difference between the clients a difference in browsers and/or browser versions?

Good point. I'm on IE8 and FF17 and he's on IE7.

Although, today, things are going even more haywire than yesterday... Now practically EVERY user can access the technical help, even those who I thought would supposedly not have the authorization for it.... maybe I should go call the ghostbusters or something...

Samuli, do you know what ultimately influences whether the technical help from context menu is available or not in detail?... Maybe someone of my colleagues is playing around on the system and influences it without me knowing...

Cheers, Lukas

The only thing apart from rendering problems which are mostly caused by incompatibilities between the WDA runtime and the browser, the backend authorizations are the only one I can think of. S_DEBUG is required.

Are you by any chance modifying the WDAs that you want to display the Technical Help for? Have you tried clearing the browser cache? What about the ICM cache. I'm just throwing ideas out there.

Today it has gone back to the state I described in my opening post... all the users that should have the technical help do have SAP_ALL, SAP_NEW and they have no Roles that explicitely restrict S_DEVELOP/DEBUG, so there shouldn't be a problem here (as far as I'm acquainted with Authorization stuff). I've also cleared the Browser cache, ICM cache and all available portal caches... I also talked to our authority expert, he didn't change anything within the last three days..

EDIT: this persists for all WDAs alike, independant whether I modified/enahnced something or not

Here's what I did last:

  • Cleared Browser caches
  • globally invalidated ICM cache
  • cleared all portal cache
  • created a new user that has only our most basic portal access role (to see the core services) and SAP_ALL and SAP_NEW

This user also cannot see the technical help. From an authorization point of view, does this remotely make sense?...

From the authorization point of view it should work. No idea what is going on, I think you should create a customer message to SAP support.

Aye. We will have a SP update in a few weeks or so, I'll bear with the problem for now and hope the update magically influences it in a positive way. If not, I'll raise a message to SAP.

Thanks for thinking things through with me, Samuli!
