foreign database monitoring in SM 7.1

I monitor db2 for LUW and MAXDB in SM 7.01.

I know database monitoring is different in SM 7.1 than in 7.01.

I'm not too concerned about the db2 for LUW databases... they all have an associated SAP system.

What about Maxdb?  I monitor maxdb from SAP content servers in SM 7.01.

Is there any foreign db monitoring in SM 7.1?

Are there more restrictive db release restrictions? SAP Content Servers currently use maxdb 7.6.  The SAP Content server pam says I could upgrade to maxdb 7.7 for my OS.

Does this depend on which kernel I choose for my SM 7.1?

Do I need to install a diagnostic agent and saphost agent on SAP Content Servers?

Hi,

you can register any 3rd party product into LMDB, check out question "How to get data into LMDB"

Once you get the data in, use Technical monitoring along with smd agent, to monitor your DB.

http://wiki.sdn.sap.com/wiki/download/attachments/269157890/Setup+System+Monitoring+and+Alerting....

Pre defined Templates available all databases.

Please check,

SAP Content Server, Maxdb aka SAP db 3rd Party Products???

And you expect ME to create the xml file for publication to my SLD?

Doesn't SAP or SCN provide an xml creation script for SAP Content Server and/or Maxdb?

Hi,

- I given you the general document, where you need to look for your requirement, More over I just interpret the term foreign as 3rd party. It doesn't mean any specific product from anyone.

- Please follow the wiki doc.

I thought I understood...

I followed your references, downloaded

"Registration of Third-Party Systems in SLD - Example Code.zip".

This contain 3 templates:

ThirdPartySystem.template

ThirdPartySystem_extended.template

UnspecificStandalone.template

There's also properties and xml files to match.

Only ThirdPartySystem_extended includes db information.

So I pluggeg SAP Content Server as product system and SAP Content Server 6.40 as product instance, filled in dbhost dbtype=SAP dnd fed the properties/template through sldreg to my test SLD connected to test SM 7.1.

Now there's a product instance of type third party system in SLD.  It's database is in SLD too, without any detail.  and its host too.

So I look in LMDB...  On the Product Instance Tab there's no type=thirdpartysystem!  Not no instance of a type=thirdpartysystem. no value in the type calldown named anything like thirdpartysystem.  There is my content server host on the hosts tab.

So I try SMSY (because its more familiar to get data out of}.  There's no Product Instance that looks like my conent server.  There IS an empty DB entry for my maxdb database and a host entry for my content server host.  I assume its the job of opendiscovery to fill in details?  My content servers aren't on the same network as this test SM, so I can't connect diagnostic agent here (so no opendiscovery).

Have I done something wrong? I thought I needed a product system/product instance with link to database for solman_setup/technical monitoring?
