Crystal Reports: Print Engine Error

0 Kudos

My report has one main report and one sub report and we implemented Saved data selection formula in both main & sub report..We scheduled crystal report through publication and it ran successfully in 5 hours and placed the crystal instance in user's inbox. when I tried to view the crystal instance in user's inbox but it throws "Crystal Reports: Print Engine Error".Report worked fine before applying saved data selection in main and sub report.

But we need saved data selection to filter the records.

Do you have any idea why we are getting print engine error ?

Validate the publication:

If CR report scheduled directly (not through Publication) to user's Inbox, does that work?

Schedule the Publication to PDF format and check whether it has anticipated data.

You may also schedule the publication to CR format to Local Drive >> Open the instance of the report on Local Drive in CR Designer and check whether you get any error while opening it in CR Designer Desktop Tool.

Wallie,

If we remove subreport then i am not getting "Print Engine" error. And Our OS is Unix. Do we need to do any settings in Registry key.

Hi Suba,

SAP Note: 1854637 Solution:

Resolution

  1. Execute <INSTALLDIR>/bobje/stopserver (for XI 3.1) or <INSTALLDIR>/sap_bobj/stopserver (for BI 4.0).
  2. vi <INSTALLDIR>/bobje/setup/env.sh (for XI 3.1) or <INSTALLDIR>/sap_bobj/setup.env.sh (for BI 4.0).
  3. Add export MWDOCFILE_BLOCKSIZE=0x1000000 at the end of the file.
  4. Execute source <INSTALLDIR>/bobje/setup/env.sh (for XI 3.1) or source <INSTALLDIR>/sap_bobj/setup/env.sh (for BI 4.0).
  5. Execute <INSTALLDIR>/bobje/startservers (for XI 3.1) or <INSTALLDIR>/sap_bobj/startservers (for BI 4.0).
  6. Schedule the report.
  7. When the new instance is created, the report contents will be streamed out without any limitation in size.

Yes, it is related to Unix environment .

Environment:

Hi Suba,

As a test,  what happens if you remove the subreport?  Do you still encounter the Print Engine Error?

My first thought is that you need to apply the following registry key (if you're on Windows O/S) on the BOE Server.

  • If the keys do not exist,  you will need to manually create them.
  • Change "\Suite 11.5" to match your product version.
  • Back up the registry before proceeding:

[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Business Objects\Suite 11.5\Crystal

Reports\SavedData]

"GenerateDataForAllSubreportInstances"="Yes"

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Business Objects\Suite 11.5\Crystal Reports\SavedData]
"GenerateDataForAllSubreportInstances"="Yes"

Wallie
