Business object restful API : license limitation

Hello,

I recently discovered the possibilities offered by the business object restful API and it resolved an issue we had where we were using excel exports of scheduled webi report as the data source for our BI solution.

With the Restful API I could implement a much easier way of collecting the datasources by using the raylight export function. However when I asked our IT department to enable the Restful API in our production environment they pointed me to the license agreement and the section about the use of the restful API by 3rd party apps. So my question is simply what are the real limitation when using the restful API to export Webi report ?

Acc. to our IT department the only way to use the restful api to consume webi report would be to buy a connector ?
