Can we use BPM's and Modeling in normal scenarios in PI 7.3 EHP1

Hi Experts,

we are using PI 7.3 EHP1 (Dual stack). im the only guy handling PI, in my project. i need some clarifications on BPM scenarios in PI 7.3. we developed the interfaces without using BPM. Since all my requirements can achieve with normal interfaces. so i did it in that way.all the interfaces

are working fine.

My client brought one SAP guy for SRM upgrade activities and showed the PI developments as well. SAP guy told why you guys are using the old interface practices. if we do the interface with BPM / Modeling. i explained like we didn't get the requirement to work with BPM. so now my client is

getting confused asked for explanation. i did it and explained they are not satisfied.

i didn't get the opportunity to meet him.

so i need all your suggestions, so that i can explain to my client in a better way.

My question is

1) Do we really need to use BPM's for every interface, even if it is not required?

2) What is the difference between interface with BPM vs interface without BPM?

3) Some drawbacks of using BPM's.

4) if we use modeling / BPM, can we do the interfaces in 5 mins.

5) which one will give better performance BPM  or normal interface?

6) what is the use of modeling, i read in forums, it will be used by the solution architects.?

can some one post the step by step guides for modeling, it will be highly appreciable..

Regards

Hi Bhargava,

1) Do we really need to use BPM's for every interface, even if it is not required?

No

2) What is the difference between interface with BPM vs interface without BPM?

BPM is used for more complex flows / requirements

3) Some drawbacks of using BPM's.

Should only be used if required. If you can hande a flow without BPM, very good. BPM can have performance issues and it is more complex and therefore, more difficult to change

4) if we use modeling / BPM, can we do the interfaces in 5 mins.

No

5) which one will give better performance BPM  or normal interface?

normal

6) what is the use of modeling, i read in forums, it will be used by the solution architects.?

it is a way to model interfaces without knowing the details exactly. It can be done by non-technical people and should lead to better team work. It does not provide technical advantages (my point of view). Best is if you read the correponding documentations in SCN and on SAP help.

Hi Udo,

Thank you very much, now i feel good some how..

The above questions which i mentioned above are told by SAP folks.

So my client is saying that, they are from SAP, they are experts. SAP folks put me in a big trouble now. i Dont know their aim.

can you give some points to highlight the normal interfaces in technical perspective.

Reg modeling: modeling improves the process visibility, then why most of the PI developers will not prefer modeling.

i didn't see any requirement in PI to use modeling.

so can you explain one business cases for modeling and when we will go for modeling..

it will be very helpful..

Thanks in advance..

Hi,

so can you explain one business cases for modeling and when we will go for modeling..

It is not a question of the business case or a technical challenge what might let you decide to use modeling. It is more a general paradigma, a way for allow non-technical person modeling integration flows without technical details for further implementation by corresponding skilled persons. Please search in SAP help for more detailled description, e.g.: http://help.sap.com/saphelp_nw73/helpdata/en/0c/499f0fc9f048c5a9800e2d736e4e9b/content.htm?frameset=...
