Hi Vishal,

Implementing cross-system processes is accomplished through SAP Exchange Infrastructure (SAP XI) . It enables you to connect systems from different vendors (non-SAP and SAP) in different versions and implemented in different programming languages (Java, ABAP, and so on) to each other.

Check in the follwing links:

SAP XI - Where to Find Information

https://www.sdn.sap.com/irj/servlet/prt/portal/prtroot/com.sap.km.cm.docs/library/xi/sap xi - where to find information.pdf

help.sap.com

http://help.sap.com/saphelp_nw04/helpdata/en/0f/80243b4a66ae0ce10000000a11402f/frameset.htm

Go thru the documents to get an idea about installation :

https://websmp103.sap-ag.de/instguides

Also check in the Weblogs and Forums related to XI in sdn.sap.com once you are familiar with the basic terminologies.

Hi Divya,

I am trying to find some info reg. installing XI for eval purposes. I am working on SAP portals, and as such know a bit about installing WAS, Portal, KM etc. However, not sure if XI is a separate installation or not ? If so, can XI be installed on the same sever as WAS ? Have starter questions like this. Do let me know if there is a document that explains the info I am looking for.

XI can be installed ont e same server as WAS but not quite sure if it can be done on a server that already has portal on it. There seem to be some issue with the user maintenace. This is not listed anywhere but while installing XI3 SR1, you will get to a screen where you need to choose between two options - one is meant for only Xi and the otehr one for all otehrs except XI.

Also perforamance-wise it is not advised to install Xi with others.

I do not think there is any doc that explicitely says this.

Go thro the different blogs and discussions here in SDN using relevant search criteria. Youc an find very good documentation and suggestions.

Thanks,

Bhaskar

Hi Vishal,

Welcome to XI.

SAP XI - Where to Find Information

All the information you need in XI :

http://help.sap.com/saphelp_nw04/helpdata/en/0f/80243b4a66ae0ce10000000a11402f/frameset.htm

To understand the architecture of XI, Please go through this link,

http://help.sap.com/saphelp_nw04/helpdata/en/14/80243b4a66ae0ce10000000a11402f/frameset.htm

You can also go through the url for Elearning :

https://www.sdn.sap.com/sdn/elearning.sdn

To read about System Landscape Directory (SLD), you can have a look at this link:

http://help.sap.com/saphelp_nw04/helpdata/en/fe/39ae3d47afd652e10000000a114084/frameset.htm

Following is the link for 'how to guides', A step by step guide to create scenarios:

https://websmp201.sap-ag.de/nw-howtoguides

XI is all about configuration of Adapters, to learn more please go through this link:

One of the most powerful feature of XI, Business Process Management:

Also, this weblog provides you with FAQ in XI:

Once you go through these links and are a bit aware what all XI objects do, you can try a simple "File to File Scenario" which would help you to understand XI objects in a much better manner.

For help on this scenario go through this blog it is in two parts thus I am providing both links below:
