Hi all

I am new to solution manager.I install solman 7.1 on SUSE 64 bit.now i am confused what are the general steps/pre-req before  running the solman_setup

1. i upgrade the kernel to the latest.

2. Now i want to upgrade solman to sps8.

Problem is ,i download all patches of sps8 from marketplace and going to apply all these using software update manager. But SUM need stack.xml that is impossible without MOPZ. as i have no MOPZ yet.

here need your suggestion what i have to do at this stage.

Hello,

You can do it without MOPZ:

- SAP Note 1577909 describes how to mount the SP8 DVD of Solution Manager 7.1

- You can generate a stack file with http://service.sap.com/sp-stacks -> SP stack download and side-effect report -> Solution Manager 7.1

Hi

thanks for response

i have downloaded the SP8 DVD from marketplace and start upgrade using SUM 1.0 SP7. and it use

stack.xml in DATA directory. But in end i am facing another problem in ABAP stack upgrade as

The program has not found a matching SAINT package for 'BI_CONT'.

As i am using all the patches and stack.xml from DVD so is there any solution for that i google a lot on that and also manually see the stack.xml file. all patches that are mentioned in stack file are present in patch directory.

you can use the http://service.sap.com/sp-stacks , and mark the product instance 'BI Content'.

In the stack download app you can select product instances to download, BI CONT belongs to product instance BI Content of Solution Manager 7.1.

Where to put sps media and stack file to start upgrade.

Do we need to put media somewhere in sum tool or somewhere else.

Please reply soon.

any location is okay. make sure its locally mounted and not NFS or you might have issue (depends on OS). Generally I create a directory in /usr/sap/<SID>/ and keep my files there.

so you mean i can keep my media on any local drive and give sum tool that path??

There is no need to put media in eps\in.

how much space we need on kernel drive to updrade to sps13??

Hi Ashu,

Please follow the SUM guide. SUM guide . You can keep your files in any download directory and make sure stack.xml is present in same directory. SUM reads the stack.xml and then extract the SAR files from same directory to ../EPS/in during the extraction roadmap step.

Regarding the space , please clarify what do you mean by kernel drive ?

I am not clear about kernel drive, but anyway, recommendation regarding space is also given in SUM guide. It will depend on your source and target and how many packages you have in your queue.

Hi Gaurav,

Now we have been upgraded our system to sps13. But still not able to get ITSM BW reports.

SYSTEM PREPARATION AND BASIC CONFIGURATION earlier was configured, now its showing they are not configured. Do we have to configure them again, to get ITSM BW Reports.

Thanks

Hi Taimur,

Please check the "Select Target System Version" screen in SUM.
You have an option there to use a "Manually prepared directory".
With that option you can patch your system without a stack file.

Please check Note 1641062 - Single component update and patch scenarios in SUM
