An unexpected downside of the new tagging system...

I read a lot of SCN (sorry, SAP Community) content via RSS. Yes, I follow a feed of all blogs.

I used to be able to tell from the URL for a blog what "space" it was in, and that would be part of the information I'd use to decide if i should follow the link and read the whole blog entry. Some spaces (mentioning no names) were just not worth reading.

Now, you can't tell from the URL what the primary tag is. That's more than a little annoying...

Unexpected ? Maybe daddy "SAP" knows that.

Why did you post this in "Coffee corner" ?. I think it would be more useful in "Using SAP(dot)com" space (I mean tag). ;)

Because, as Steffi said, this isn't really a bug. It is what it is, and isn't going to change. We'll never get tags in the blog post URLs because that's not how Wordpress works.. And anyway, I doubt anyone but me cares, so there'd be no point in putting any effort into changing it.

So, not a bug, but a rant, and only a small one... :-)

I believe, most of the top contributors share your feelings. That's regarding the phrase if someone cares... But, I want to remain optimistic about the outcome if everyone speaks it out loud. For example, for this issue with blogs, what could be done, at least, that a primary tag, will be a part of URL, as the date is now, for instance.

Because it's something to discuss/rant about, not a bug. ;)

I think the user tags are clear text, right? But all of the other have those long tag-ids. Maybe it's time to learn them by heart, Steve. ^^

Indeed, shouldn't be impossible. After all, there are some guys who memorize, and can recite, entire books; while, here we speak just of some 200-300 tags :)

You missed a zero, I think...

It's just in order to start with something. You know, like with kanji: you start with the 1,100 most useful and then learn the other 50K :)

I tried to follow the "blog roll" for the first month simply because all other content discovery channels were shut down (no top/featured content on home page, junky activity stream, no emails, etc.). But I found it's mostly the SAP employees happily chirping about this or that product, HANA announcements or the space we don't speak of. Unfortunately, based on a few recent trips to the "blog roll", the trend seems to continue.

Personally, I don't have a problem with URLs but it would be nice to have a "blog roll" with a filter by tag or theme or something. We heard so much about how tags are better than spaces but then if I have to set up a bookmark for each tag then how is it even different? There is no functionality to do anything with multiple tags at the same time - it's one tag or whole website. Ugh, can't even talk about this anymore, too annoyed. :(

I think, SAP shot themselves in the foot by displaying the first few sentences of the blog in addition to the blog title.

Now I read even less blogs than before, because my 'no sales pitch, no buzzwords, no BT topics' filter triggers for 8 out of 10 items. Out of the remaining 20%, at least 70% would be on topics, in which I am either not interested right now, or I cannot understand. This means, that I might open 1 blog in two pages... if I have the time and patience to browse :)

If these statistics are similar for others, I admire your optimism to try using RSS for SAP blogs.

Hey at least you found the coffee corner ;-)

Not to be underestimated as content discovery channel in the new community.

There is no ABAP forum Richard!

But there is the shiny and blinky brand new tag for "ABAP Development"! http://www.sap.com/community/tag.html?id=833755570260738661924709785639136

How could you not find its easy id?!

Bonus points of you figured out on your own to change http to https and display the data :)

I figured nothing, Chrome did it for me

Meh... we still have the "more comments" bug...

@Simone: it does not look similar to me, but if I were you, I would try connecting via a different network and using a portable browser reset to default settings and no add-ons enabled.

@Jeremy: if you click on the SAP logo from the BUM (Big Ugly Menu), you get a http link. Yes, parts of the new SCN don't work in http anymore for some members and you need https to display them properly. I would not call this a feature, at least not until we get consistent behavior across the supported browsers, platforms and for all sap.com pages (this is going to take a while if it ever happens).

That's weird cause when you click the link it clearly says tag: ABAP Development, so somewhere a database exists with the key '833755570260738661924709785639136' and value ABAP Development.

so why not do it the other way around

/tag.html?id=ABAP_Development this has the added benefit that before you click the link you know what it is about.

The "database" is a Microsoft Excel file :-)

In addition it is also available as UI5 app.

What?! Do you want make something userfriendly??? Are you crazy?! :p

If you are you saying that if I think that UX design can be described as:" improving customer satisfaction and loyalty through the utility, ease of use, and pleasure provided in the interaction with a product" is crazy, then yes I'm totally crazy.

It was sarcastic Rob :)
i got your same tought about the tag: it's crazy to remember the tag and it's not possible to use the description (at least as ABAP_Development) instead of the long sequence of chars.

It's something every single framework around the web allow you to do!

SAP products are incompatible with "pleasure". :)

What if you subscribe to blogs tagged pages for each of your area of interest (like https://blogs.sap.com/tags/73554900100700000996/)? It is far from perfect - you will get duplicates if you subscribe to multiple pages on similar topics, and there is no way to completely ignore blogs with the tag, which should not be named...
