[Status Update] - Is the WIKI going on holiday, or taking time off for a 1DX makeover?

I was doing some link maintenance on the All Things SAP Fiori wiki space and noticed the preemptive OOO message from the wiki concerning the Dec. 7-11 outage, so I wanted to bring this to your attention, since we have no other formal announcement channel.

I also thought it might spark some interesting ideas, or a contest to speculate what the wiki will be doing on its 5 days hiatus.

Thanks, Jeremy. We're working on getting the word out elsewhere too.

I see the message has been updated since my original post, so I wanted to share the new wording with the Coffee Corner enthusiasts.

[...]but we to take this action to improve and maintain[...]

Thanks for sharing "the new wording"..:). – Man, my own grammar is so old-school, I just feel sick and tired.

Oops. Thanks for catching that. I'm working on correcting.

Got it - Thanks for sharing this information :)

I really hope that the wiki will not get a 1DX makeover now, not before the most critical issues in the new site are fixed - at least the wiki is working well (despite the not-so-pretty look), which I cannot say for any of the features in the new site.

There are some really good wiki pages for SD consultants (especially on pricing and SD/FI interface), which I don't wish to disappear.

So your fear has to do with the claim "while we improve the platform"...?

      • Dec 06, 2016 at 08:06 AM

Considering the effects of the latest set of introduced improvements, I simply don't wish that valuable content disappears or becomes unusable.
I have no idea what "improving the platform" means, but I really hope that whatever that is, that it will be thoroughly tested by the internal project team, before it gets applied.

the latest set of introduced improvements

I guess we share the same level of hope, fear, and irony...:)

      Hi, Veselina:

This is not a 1DX makeover for the wiki. That's a much more involved conversation for 2017.

I'm working on getting a list of the "improvements." It's difficult to describe too many details in a short announcement message, but I hope to provide some more specifics from the wiki team. I'll share here (or someone from the wiki team will).

      Best regards,

      --Jerry

Well, I have now seen the announcement on this page (not visible until you scroll down - approximately middle of the page): https://go.sap.com/community.html and also on Twitter:

https://twitter.com/SAPCommunity/status/806219165501714432 so we are now sufficiently informed - thanks Jerry :)

You can't make this stuff up...now I'm going to spread a rumor that wordpress and the wiki are eloping...
  • Dec 07, 2016 at 10:43 PM

Phase 1: Announce you are improving something to make it "cutting edge" / "best of breed" / "100% classy" / whatever.

    Phase 2: Break it badly.

    Phase 3: Profit?

In this case I actually don't know what Phase 3 is. I guess we'll find out soon. RIP SCN Wiki, you will be missed.

      Phase 3: Ctrl+Z?

Actually to my understanding its an upgrade to the underlying wiki platform, but have no more explicit details than the banner messages. Emails for watched updates have 'Confluence' in the message, so assume it is from Atlassian.

    Hi, everyone:

As Jeremy commented elsewhere, it's mostly an update to the underlying wiki platform. Specifically, we're upgrading to a new version of the confluence software, so we can continue to get support from Atlassian.

This update will include a "save for later" option -- which is sort of an internal bookmarking: https://confluence.atlassian.com/doc/save-for-later-136552.html

    I hope that helps.

    Best regards,

Hehe, for a moment there I thought "Atlassian" was an ancient language or some secret SAP speak. :)

      • Dec 17, 2016 at 12:48 AM

atlassian's jira seems to work with gerrit, github and other open source web developer tools, which SAP seems to have recently gravitated towards. at some points they may replace CTS, but we are not quite there yet.

      Hi @Jerry,

All of the wiki banner ads have gone away, but I didn't observe any information that things were successful, so I have to assume the coast is clear and we can resume making wiki edits? Is there a what's new, or anything to indicate what new features we get with the upgrade?

      • Dec 16, 2016 at 02:50 PM

        Hi, Jeremy:

Sorry that I'm just getting back to you. I'm kinda sorta on holiday vacation, but I'm trying to peek in when I can.

I'm assuming by now you've made edits and everything worked fine. If I'm wrong, please let me know.

RE: what's new...I don't think there is anything planned, but I can double-check.

        Best regards,

        --Jerry

          Hi Jeremy,

There are no major changes. There is a new feature "Save for Later" which is similar to the bookmark feature.

          Everything is back to normal.

Please let me know if you have additional questions.

          Regards,

          Moshe
